Open D Tuning - Tabs?

After reading this post I did a Google search on ""Open D" and tablature" which returned several pages of results. Naturally, most may not be useful ... lots of references to an Emmylou Harris tune, for example. But some looked like they might be sources for just what you want, even if not goldmines. Some looked like they were links to sheet music resources and so on.

Not sure if this helps, since you may have already tried this route, but at least I was the first to respond with SOMETHING. lol

Yeah, I thought you may have already tried that route. But then, ya never know. I offered it anyway.

As a new and learning player, I find myself hungry for material too. Of course, I am just looking for good beginner stuff ... lessons and simple charts.

You're from Sarasota...did you suffer any of the Hurricane Blues?

Neither Gustav nor Ike came through here. We have been spared thus far.

Actually, I am north of Sarasota a bit (about an hour), near Clearwater.

Unfortunately, though, one of my best almost lifetime friends lives in Texas with her family. She got hit and took some damage to her house. Not as bad as others, from what I see on the news, and all body parts still intact. But she sounds a bit stressed from the ordeal. I can only imagine.

Not much of that kind of weather in your part of the world, I hope?

Michael,
You might want to try some of Kyser's partial capos. One in particular is the Short Cut capo. It puts you in a DADGAD type tuning without having to re-tune your guitar from standard tuning. You can play 3 different chords with just one finger. Other standard chord formations work well also. They are coming out with 4 new partial capos in January at the Winter NAMM Show in CA. Drop-D, Double Drop-D, DADGAD, and Open G. They will be called the Kyser K-Lever series of Partial Capos. They will all feature the K-Lever.

I'm 63 and have OFS, and I find these very easy to use. You should be taking Glucosamine & Chondroitin complex as well as MSM with your other vitamin/mineral supplements. These two products are the only reason I can play these days. I had a time when I could not pick up a telephone book without dropping it due to pain in my hands. It took several months of me taking these products to turn things around. I continue to take them every day.

Nah, we just touch off 15 or 20,000 acres of forest fires from time to time... :-) Got four different ones going currently from Central Oregon to Mount Hood, one burning into Crater Lake Nat'l. Park right now. We get 4 or 5 feet of snow every few years, but no hurricanes or tornadoes. Stormy weather around her is just an old swing tune... No evacuations, we just hang in and play music until it's over in the Spring. God had the Creation thing down by the time he got ready to go to work out here...

Thanks, Greg! I do take an anti-inflammatory called ketoprofen, a generic for Orudis. One daily allows me to play normally, I double up when I know I'm going to have to play for several hours. That's worked for the last 10-12 years. The Kyser capos sound very interesting, thank you!

For all the other arthritic pickers,

By any chance do you take statins for cholesterol? I started developing arthritis symptoms a few months after starting on Lipitor. Stopped that and a few months later the arthritis was gone. Started again and the arthritis came back. My doc didn't believe it was related, but I stopped again and arth. cleared up again. I'm looking for other cholesterol solutions, and needless to say a different doc.

I do take rosuvostatin (Crestor) but the arthritis was wrecking me 15 years before that. What I found to have the best effect was to stop drinking alcohol. At all. Not one molecule. And to stay away from nitrites--no pepperoni, no hot dogs, no sausage meats of any kind, and VERY light on sodium if at all. Those things, with the antiinflammatories, make it possible to play serveral hours a day. But thanks for the thought and the advice. Being able to keep playing more than makes up for what I have to give up to do it. When the doc says to give up the guitar, THAT'S when I start looking for another physician... :-)

I use several different open tuning also, and I know what you mean about the lack of material in open D, but check out this web site, I don't know if you've seen this,as it has several tunings and tabs listed...

Hello Michael. The resnets Tellurian link is indeed very good for tunings altough DADF#AD is a little neglected there.
From the books that i have, there are some excellent tunes:
Peppino D'agostino new acoustic guitar - the Entertainer and Bella Donna (one of the nicest pieces to play in this tuning). You can try and search through sites like 911tabs.com, there was a powertab version available somewhere in the past.
Mike Dowling Uptown Blues - Bottleneck March, Jan's Song, Rocky Road, Swamp Dog Blues. This is an EXCELLENT book (like Peppino's btw..) and some tunes involve slide.
Franco Morone Guitarea - 3 great melodic tunes to adopt to repertuar.. Max Passage, Tightrope Song, Mediterranean Slide

My favorite tune is Akaskero by a great young Austrian guitarist named Thomas Leeb. You can find the tablature through search in 911tabs.com.
