I am an amp builder as well as a player and I am gathering information about your best experiences with using tube amplification with acoustic instruments. Thanks in advance!
I play my acoustic through my "electric" tube amps and it doesn't sound to well. I can EQ it and use a compressor and kinda get a decent sound. It also depends on what kind of pickup is in the acoustic guitars I play through it; but even the best sound doesn't sound as good as a regular acoustic amp. Now if there is a tube acoustic amp out there, I am not aware of it.
Thanks for the response. Doyle Dykes' rig sounds amazing. I heard him when he was touring for Taylor solo in a room that was about 40' x 80'. His amp was the Rivera Sedona 55 Doyle Dykes Signature Combo (or a custom variation of) all tube and clear as a bell and filled the entire room. That amp has a high frequency driver that really pulls out the detail of his technique. Most electric guitar tube amps are designed to attenuate the higher end of the frequency spectrum to get rid of the "ice pick" effect.
