Hi Folks, This is a new group to share everything about the cigar box guitar and it's history...it is only about cigar box guitars, not that there is a problem with 6 string guitars, those are cool and nifty too...but this is a place to share ideas and post anything and everything CBG.
I have a website that is full of history.... come visit it sometime!
Whelp, if you have anything to share, add it here and it might help get you share your cigar box guitar music....first thing is first...post your cbg ideas, photos and tips.
It's been a while since I played around with it but about a year ago (believe it or not I was at a Magician's convention) I bought something he called a "Canjo" from one of the dealers which basically was a short hockey stick riveted to a dollar store pie plate and had there strings. It was fretted and tuned like a dulcimer (DAD). I am an acomplished guitar player and was quick to figure out chord forms and songs within minutes of playing with it. here's a pic. I use my mandolin bag and capo with it and I have a stick on pick up which makes it sound really nice through an amp. The first one the guy made used a tomato juice can hence the canjo name but he liked the pie plate better. I suggested maybe he could call the new one a "Panjo"

I've been building for a couple of years now, I've built several guitars including a resonator guitar, a banjo, a ukulele, a mandola, etc.
The little guys are great fun and can be as primitive or as complex as you like.
