Acoustic Guitar Community

Welcome to the Acoustic Guitar Community.

This last year I've really gotten into John Fahey's music, and have picked up many of his albums. I'm sure there are plenty of fans on this website, so I was hoping somebody could shed some light on his guitars/technique. It's odd how it's easier to find discussions of his philosophical treatises than his playing.

I've found a short article from Acoustic Guitar magazine about a small-bodied Gibson that was smashed and rebuilt, but that's it. Youtube videos show a couple different flat tops, none with any electronics, and that he played steel guitar Hawaiian style.

Can anybody shed some light on this gentleman for me?

You might want to get in touch with Glenn Jones. He has written extensively about Fahey, and his group Cul de Sac collaborated with him in the 90's. This is his website :
