Welcome to the Acoustic Guitar Community.

Have a chance to get an MTV! from a pawn shop. Owner is not a player and is dragging his feet in establishing a price. He was offered 1000.00 for it but just chuckled. Can't find any others 4sale and even the Martin website doesn't even have it listed in the archives.(They do have the MTV2's listed but not the 1). Dan from Cleveland

Sorry,just noticed a ! instead of a 1; MTV1
Check out the Martin Guitar group. There is a discussion about this guitar currently. Turns out it is rather rare.

Maybe not as rare as led to believe. Vintage Guitar lists the "MTV Unplugged Edition" MTV-1 as from 1996 and the price range in the 2010 guide is $1,100 (good condition) to $1,400 (excellent condition). I wouldn't hold my breath for this one if the guy chuckled at $1,000. Especially since he's not a player. There could be a lot of work required to get the guitar into playable condition. Right off the bat you're talking $60-$75 to do a setup. I'd examine the guitar very closely and look for anything like cracks, dents, scratches, loose bracing, neck separating from the body, etc. It'll all add up to having more money put into it than it's worth if he's looking to sell it for more than $1,100. Even at $1,000 I'd argue it's not worth it.
Plus, it has the MTV logo on the headstock which I wouldn't want. Those snots wouldn't know good music if it hit them in the face. I have little respect after they decided cutting in on Pink Floyd in the middle of Comfortably Numb during Live 8 was a good idea.

Thanx for the reply. Whom are you referring to in last sentence? And i agree about owner. He thinks he's sitting on a 4000.00 piece there and I don't think I'm even gonna bother showing him your numbers, even tho i totally believe your findings. I'll let you know if he comes to his senses. Also, I went on Martins website and in the listing of past models they only list the MTV2 and no sign of the "1". Thought that was rather wierd. Oh well, nice talkin at ya. Dan
Dan,

I am referring to MTV in who cut to a correspondant in the middle of the song being performed. It was totally rude, inconsiderate and disrespectful.

The MTV-1 guitar was only produced in 1996. The MTV-2 was produced 2003 and 2004. The "2" is the more recent model and might be the reason for it showing up versus the "1". The value of the "2" is no better at $900 to $1,000.

Yesterday I ordered the Vintage Guitar price book. Gonna take it to this fella and open his eyes a tad. He also Has a Martin that was custom made and is accompanied by an evaluation slip that gives it a value of 4000.00. I haven't even bothered him about that one since he's convinced he's gonna hit the jackpot with that one too. My impression is it was built from a kit. Oh well. Thanks for the reply; Dan
I believe you could be referring to a Martin MMV which I also believe was produced for Musicians Friend. It's a nice guitar, I've tried it and have seen it used for $500.00 to 600.00 price range. If you want to waste your breath, tell the pawn shop owner to take a leap. There are plenty of fish in the sea. Martins are great if that's what you can't do without, so being a Musicians Friend fan, I'd check out their used equipment
