Welcome to the Acoustic Guitar Community.

I'd like to find out what my 12-string is worth. Mossman is a difficult maker to investigate. Any ideas?
Thanks much.

Have you tried to Contact Mossman Guitars Inc.

or if you prefer tot alk to a live person phone . 903-885-4992
or e-mail Tony@mossman-guitars.com
As a hand built in Sulpher Springs Texas they are considered to be a very fine guitars and are still made today.
Their earlier models, Flint Hills,Golden Era,Great Plains, and the Tennessee Flattop all were selling for around $350 to $750 and now can achieve as much as$700- up tp $2500, not sure where your model fits in as it is a new line made once they left Kansas.Ship

Thanks a lot for the helpful info. I had no idea that Mossman would still be a presence out there.

Don't know if you've had any resolution of your question, but here's my $.02........
Mossman made the Winter Wheat model from 1976 - 1981 roughly. The model was called the Flint Hills Custom from 1972-1976. The Winter Wheat model falls below the South Wind and Golden Era. There aren't many 12 string Mossmans out there so any would be hard to find. You can tell the year of manufacture by looking at the label inside the guitar and the two numbers to the left of the hyphen would be the manufacture year. I am not an appraiser but I try to keep up with Mossman prices. I would say your guitar in good condition could get $1500. I'm sure it sounds excellent. All mine do.
You might think that's a little low, but you have to remember that Mossman is pretty obscure and most buyers are more in touch with what the headstock says.

Thanks, Paul.
When I pulled out my Mossman 12 my intention was to sell it. I started playing it, and now I can't put it down. So instead, I'm going to put a little more money into it and get it into perfect playing condition. It's a great sounding guitar. It has been interesting, though, to learn about its value.

If you haven't already tried to get repair done may I suggest Scott Baxendale at ColfaxGuitarShop.com (he's the owner) or Steve Mason's shop at ask-a-luthier.com. Both guys worked in the Mossman shop and are very capable and know exactly how the Mossmans are built.

Great input. Thanx again, Paul.

I would think you might get more than $1500.00 for yours, but do keep on mind that if you are the original owner your guitar has a lifetime guarantee and evn if these feloows mentioned worked at Mossman, it would void your guarantee, and I just think it would be worth the money to ship it to them, bellow is a link to a 6 stringer Winter Wheat and new it starts at $3200.00, hope you enjoy the pics.

I never thought that the warranty would transfer since the old Mossman factory closed in the early 80's when the business was sold to Scott and moved to Texas. My Timber Creek is a one owner and was sent to Scott about 18 months ago for a reset. Guess I should have asked first.

Ship - I appreciate the wishful thinking, but I bought my 73 Flint Hills Custom which is the same as the Winter Wheat model for 1200 bucks about 1 year ago. It needed a little work it wasn't 100% but I used that for a guide. I wish more people knew about Mossmans. Somebody stole a near mint 76 Great Plains for 1025 last week on ebay. I wish there would have been some cash around the house to get that one!! There was a 74 Golden Era Custom with the fantastic Maurer inlay that needed a 500 dollar neck block repair that went for only 2500 and it was one of the Brazilian ones. Ebay isn't the last word on value but it does give a fair measure of what is out there. Unfortunately, to get big bucks for a vintage guitar it has to say Martin or Gibson on it that's what people want regardless if it's hype or fact.

But as a last word I'm addicted to guitar porn also. Can't get enough. I especially enjoy the thread on this forum about showing your guitar!!!!!
