Acoustic Guitar Community

Welcome to the Acoustic Guitar Community.

This is a song I co-wrote with another lyricist called Fallin' Fallin'.
I recently had it professionally stem mastered, mixed and then final mastered.
Here are the two versions and I would appreciate your feedback on which one sounds better:

Version 1 (Latest Master) - audio swapped 11/29 at 11:33 a.m. Pacific

Version 2 (Alternate Mix)

I like version #1.
Yeah version 1 - nice tune Gil, well done - I like it
Well, guess my ears are different. I like #2. Guitar sounds more natural. Both sound good, but you asked! :-)
I tried Gil, but for some reason they wouldn't load.
I vote for version #1
The vocal needs some compression to cut through the guitar--it is drowned out for the most part in both mixes but worse in the first one.
The guitar is too harsh and perhaps some chorus could fix that, the mood of the lyrics is supposed to be sweet and the guitar is harsh--that has to change. Get a bit more in the mid-range, some sweet chorus effect. Some strings tagging along could not hurt.
The progression is too monotonous over the entire song--rather than come up with some nice bridges or standout choruses--you can modulate up by a half-step for each new verse--keeps the attention.
As a songwriter, you might want to check out fantastic books on song construction by Rikkey Rooksby.
You also do not have a "hook"--some musical or lyrical device to catch the ear--to say to the listener--especially a producer or agent--hey, this is different!!
