I Want to Hold Your Hand, Please Please Me, She Loves You, Yesterday
Their music was genius, and I liked their later work too, but I'll always think of them in terms of the early ones that they broke into the US with.
Like Walt, I have the fondest memories of their early work, when they came to us via the Ed Sullivan show. But, here's the 3 that still speak to me whenever I hear them...
- I Want To Hold Your Hand
- I Saw Her Standing There - just love that great George solo. Simple genius, eh!
- Michelle - My daughter was named Michelle, and I use to sing this song to her. Finally, she was about 4, and heard it on the radio, and came running to me with a huge smile on her face saying, "Dad, there's a band playing your song on the radio!!!" I just didn't have the heart to ruin her buzz. Later, I admitted I didn't write it, but the song was hers anyway by proxy.

Permalink Reply by Wayne Simpson on June 13, 2012 at 1:35pm Hard to choose three, but one that always comes to the top of my list would be "In My Life". Another two, in no particular order, might be "Here Comes the Sun" and "You've Got To Hide Your Love Away".

I went to see the Beatles tribute band Rain a few weeks ago. It was a fun time, and very nostalgic. I'm not sure why, but I never really enjoyed the Beatles. Their songs, however, seemed to be the sound track to my generation, and I do have a couple Beatles songs that connect me to earlier times in my life.
Hello Goodbye - last song I heard as a civilian before joining the USN.
Strawberry Fields Forever - this was playing on the radio when I was getting a royal butt-chewing, not my first or last.
