@ FloridaGull Yea, that is what my dad said, but it beats me beating myself up for one of my other gulls getting damaged. Besides, I work in a school that is 50% low income, so those who play guitar are playing on a super store, laminate special. It is also my graduate present. I finished my masters this week.

Sounds good to be honest, the crack was glued and when I changed the strings I could feel the "stints" or braces gluing it together. I thought the crack would dampen the sound, but it has not at all. It needed new strings, as it sounded flat in the store. This will give the kids a chance to play a non-laminate without me being afraid they will drop one of my guitars. It is already cracked, so I won't feel bad about it getting a scratch or two.

I just read my last post, I am an idiot. It is the low E machine that went out. I fell good about that $15 eBay purchase as an emergency back-up. I also got $100 from GC on trading in a few items I have picked up cheaply.

JJ, how does it sound?  Some cracks do not change sound much.  Sounds like you got a deal as new will cost 3X or more.

A good Seagull day! So I bought the cracked Maritime SWS CW SG QI from GC for $198.98 out the door plus a free used gig bag (Great Divide). I went in and did some one on one negotiations. It had another un-separated crack on the side, a small crack near the sound hole and a broken high E tuning machine. The large crack had been repaired and I was told it has been stuck around for a while and no one has been willing to purchase it. I am glad I bought a set of tunning pegs on ebay a few months back. This is my stay at school let kids bang around guitar.

I bought my first guitar in 1980 - couldn't have bought a Seagull without time travel... :-(

...I'm soooo grateful that I found this group!....the rediscovery of the Seagull guitar line!  Wish I had bought one in 1982, when they first appeared, I just wasn't as knowledgable then as I am now!....Thanks to all of you gulls, for the guidance, input, and inspiration!...(having the time of my life!)

Actually my post was suppose to be in the Sears/Blues thread but I spaced as usual.  I will copy it over there as it is more apt there. No idea how old that Harmony guitar but it will probably need work and money to make it worth playing.  It looked like a laminate top.

@Ron ... If it was USA made, that's aplus.  unfortunaely they are still producing some ulta low-end crap under the Harmony name that is made in China.  I tried to recue oen last year, but it was just so bad that i judgerd it beyond redemption  and sold it at my yard sale for $20 ... The newer Chinese Harmony junk tries to emulate the Martin headstock by saying "Harmony since 1989" or some such nonsense.  These guitars are pure garbage

I pop in to Sam Ash for a few minutes to check out stuff and saw a used Harmony (USA made) guitar.  It was priced cheap at $65 but the sound was awful and there were dead frets.  I passed although I am thinking of getting a folk size or parlor size guitar as all I have are Dreadnoughts.  That would have been a good bottle neck delta blues guitar.  But I don't know how to play bottle neck slide.  The guitar could have come out of an old Sears catalog.
