So the battery in my Snark brand guitar tuner died the other day. (I don't know about the rest of you, but I am notorious for forgetting to turn it off!) I went to radio shack and bought a new battery for it. paid almost $7 with tax... for one battery.
Today I was in Ace hardware buying some hardware type stuff and on one of the endcaps they had a display of batteries.. There was a blisterpack of THE EXACT SAME BATTERY - Nine batteries in the pack for $3.99 nine batteries for four dollars... I can leave that snark turned on an awful lot of times before I run out of those....
I'm gonna call that seven dollars a tuition payment for the college of hard knocks...

Thanks for the heads up!! Haven't had to change out yet, but it's only a matter of time and I guess I will go to Radio Shack when it's time!!

Permalink Reply by Edward Sparks on July 31, 2012 at 3:02pm Batteries for tuners are a big thing with me...I play professionally and used several instruments on stage for a given show. I have about a dozen guitars that all have tuners on them, and they stay there so they are always ready. I have a monthly battery change plan just so they don't run out! I have several (okay an indecent amount) of tuners which I have bought over the years. I have two Snark tuners and loved the bright display, but they do go through batteries quickly...especially if you forget to turn them off, which I did too. Most of them now have an autoshutoff setting and if you can figure that out it will save your batteries a little! I have now settled on the Planet Waves Nanotuner. It is really small, hides behind the headstock and is easy to read. It doesn't use batteries nearly as quickly as the Snark and it's cheaper in the first place! Here is a link to it:

List price is $29, but you can find them online, as here on Amazon, for $14, and if you print out the page and take it to Guitar Center they will price match! This is one reason I have a dozen of them! Check it out, you won't be disappointed!
I shop for the best price on batteries, and as you said, it really varies! For them to be that cheap compared to Radio Shack, you might want to check the expire date...sometime they put them on sale when they get close to the expire date! You don't want to have nine of them that will expire before you need them! This Forum/Community is really good for just this kind of thing...I will check out the battery deals at ACE now that you have said it here! Thanks, Edawrd

Permalink Reply by Gary Clements on August 1, 2012 at 4:48pm Regarding batteries, there are a very limited number of manufacturers, so a good rule of thumb is pay as little as possible. I have been using Costco's brand, i.e., Kirkland, and they are very cheap and last as long as any others I've tried.
