Comment by Miles Walton on July 20, 2012 at 10:18am Thanks Walt. Glad to be here. I'm a newb (even though I've been banging away at it for over 3 years now) and trying to figure out how to get past scales and excercises. I've just ordered the Gibson Learn and Master DVDs and am hoping they will get me moving past my current skill level.

Comment by Byron Hitchens on July 14, 2012 at 11:07am I have seen similar comments about CubeBase on numerous sites. I started with CubeBase as I set up for recording, new to it all. After going through various AI's ended up with an Audio-M fast track ultra and other equipment. The process of setting up or the DAW with the equipment involved manuals or support via phone or online. It was time consuming yet very interesting. However, to be brief it was not a good experience. Research led me to Cockos Reaper. The cost for the program was $40. It was version 3.2 and it is now at 4.25. The updates have been extensive yet there has been no cost for those updates. I understand it will have a new cost of $60. when it reaches version 5. There is extremely good instruction within the manual and books written by the those connected with the program. It is free to try. Never having done any of this before, I have numerous recordings done, and I am happily engrossed in the process and the support both by forum and direct email is superb.
Comment by Walt Pilcher on July 14, 2012 at 10:01am Welcome, Charles, to the Acoustic Newb group. Browse the discussions; there's a lot of good stuff here. I see you have a Seagull Entourage, as I do (Grand Rustic), and I hope you are enjoying it.
Comment by Walt Pilcher on July 12, 2012 at 1:38pm Jack Brown, welcome to the group. It's great to have experienced players among us because, as with Franklin Templeton Investments, we gain from your perspective.

I have so far gotten one song out with CubeBase,(Patricia's Waltz on my page) along with a few single guitar tracks for a friend.
I thought I was alone in thinking it was not user friendly. I even sent several emails to Steinburg telling them this.
Comment by Walt Pilcher on June 28, 2012 at 6:20am Mark, you are right about Cubase. It took me a long time and lots of trial & error to learn it, and even today I probably use only half of what it's capable of. Thanks for telling us about Mixcraft. It looks interesting and the price seems very reasonable. I'll have to check it out.
Anyone else have experience with Acoustica Mixcraft?
Comment by Mark on June 28, 2012 at 4:18am I have to give you guys credit for being FAR more intelligent than I am...
I have cubase and I honestly tried for a few weeks to learn how to use it. It just proved way too difficult and non user-friendly and I gave up. I use a program called "Acoustica Mixcraft" . Unlike cubase, it's terribly self intuitive and easy to understand.
In the three weeks that I struggled with cubase I was never able to do even the simplest of recordings.. Literally a half hour after I downloaded mixcraft I had created and recorded an entire song.
