It's a site built by Neil Hogan, a popular guitar teacher on YouTube, called Totallyguitars.com. There you can do the same thing you do here: build a profile; start groups; learn songs. He's a good teacher but as of this week you have to get a paid subscription to learn full songs

Welcome Curt. You certainly have company. Many of us have trials and tribulations. Many are over 50 (I'm 54). There is plenty of help, encouragement and inspiration here.

HI all!
I found a mention of this group in one forum thread after signing up at the AG site a day or two ago. I've been learning to play very slowly on and off for a long time - longer than I care to admit.
While I'm hardly new to acoustic guitar I'm still very much a newb when it comes to playing so I thought this would be a great place to jump in.

As a youngster I took lessons for a short time and have "gone it alone" with various books and dvds since that time.
I recently attended a weekend seminar that has taught me more about music and music education and done more to motivate me than anything I've ever experienced. I now eagerly look forward to my daily practice sessions (49 days and counting) - something I could say only occasionally in the past.
Anyway, it's nice to have found this community and some more "old" newbies like myself, I'll be 56 this year.
I look forward to hearing all your experiences, continued learning and to the day when I might be able to offer help to another newbie.

Hi Barbara,
I have a video up on this site of a song played fingerstyle in open D tuning. I'll be offering downloadable lessons shortly on how the song was done as well as how to play in that tuning, with others to follow. If your interested, you might check it out.

Has anyone here gone to the Totallyguitars website to learn from Neil?

I too need to start playing with others. Got a buddy who plays and I'm going to give him a jingle when I get a chance.

I don't think I'll be near Chitown in the near future, but I appreciate the invite. Look me up if your anywhere near Harrisburg/Philly.

In my frustrated efforts to start a guitar club, I thought I'd take a different approach. If you're in the Chicago area (especially DuPage County) and would like to try to get together to play (even if all we do is practice scales), contact me and we'll see if we can make it happen.

Nothing so exciting, my friend. I decided go back to square one and learn Rob's way from the beginning. I will be suffering playing repetitive scales for a while, but I believe in Rob's method so far. I think I am gaining speed that I never had, as well as as confidence that I know where the notes are.

Having failed to do the really hard work earlier, it is time for me to do it now. I can only hope that some only experience will help me to progress a little faster than a true beginner.

I will be glad to report the good the bad and the ugly. Rob assures me that I won't be disappointed if I put in the work.

On a sad note, my Taylor has been delayed. They are telling me thirty days. I guess I don't need a new guitar to play scales. AAAAARRRGGGHHHH!
