Where are Alvarez, not Yairi, guitars manufactured? 2 Replies

It has been impossible for me to learn exactly where Alvarez guitars are manufactured.  The short answer, I know, is China but where in China?  Also, does Alvarez have its own factory in China or…Continue

Value of 1980 Alvarez Yairi Dy-75

I have posted this elsewhere so pardon the double post.  I am thinking of selling my 1980 Alvarez Yairi and wonder about a fair market value.  It's a DY-75 with Barcus Berry hot dots installed.  So,…Continue

Nice guitar John. I was poking around the internet the other day and learned that Jerry Garcia played an Alvarez-Yairi during his sets with Dave Grisham. Those are some of my favourite recordings. Bluegrass and folk music. Garcia's guitar and Grisham's mandolin really shine.

I play my Seagull S6 99% of the time.  There was a Seagull S12 on CraigsList a few weeks ago.  I probably could have gotten it for $300 and sold the Alvarez for $100 later, but my wife would have killed me.  A 12 string is nice to have but will never be my main guitar.

I got a RD20S12 on CraigsList for $60.  It's in great shape but the action was so high it was unplayable.  The truss rod was lose.  Once I cranked on the truss rod, about 3/4 turn, the neck relief and action came back to spec.  My guitar teacher was so impressed on how well it played he asked to adjust his Taylor!

hello all, just having a look at all the comments,,i take it that k yairi uses its own name for the european market,,i have a yairi ym2 and after looking on the net i find it to be a rare one as a lot of the yairi guitars are.

She has a ceder top with ovengol back and sides a slimline neck and was made in 1999 the godd thing is that most of its life has been spent in its case so she is in mint condition and the music shop used it for some recording and then sold it to me she wasent cheep but worth every penny i had no idea that yairi have made so many different guitars i will have to play some different models as i think thay are well made ,,,thay are made in japan but old school,,,hide glue,,no cnc,,hand carved necks and braces have just got hold of a cool book very cool with bags of info on the history of yairi it ends in saying in his own words,,,k yairi works af art,,,,it waset hipe,,,,

Wish i could help you John.  i recently bought an AJ60sce and it stays in tune for ever...  That actually seems to be the trademark of Alvarez  (in my limited experience anyway)..

I will say that everyone I know who's bought a Seagull has been VERY happy with them.  Maybe you just got a dud, I'd give Seagull a try if it was me.

I currently have an AF410S as my main guitar...I love it...but I recently purchased an AF60CE....no love here..it doesn't stay in tune very well...the wood seems very "soft"...is this a normal thing for this guitar?...I use elixr custom lights on both guitars, the AF410S is fine...but I don't know what to do with the other guitar...thinking of swapping it out for a seagull....somebody help me PLEASE!

Folks,  I just came across the new version of the Alvarez/Yairi website.  It still has some pages under construction, but it's there.
