Not exactly the bod ran but certainly percussive. I had the great pleasure to see Chris play here in Houston recently. He was magnificent!

Watch some Chris Smither video. He mics a piece of wood and uses his feet.

Thanks for the kind comments Brian and Bill,

Bill, not sure what to suggest for your foot drum. I have seen a guy using a tambourine in an Irish session for what your suggesting...but it was kinda annoying! Maybe a tambourine without the bells would work? Or just put on a pair of heavy boots and tap your foot real heavy. I know some players who's foot stomping is so hard they don't need any extra percussion!

Your music is really wonderful Dave.

Can anyone suggest how, as a solo fingerstyle player, I might get a nice Celtic percussion sound using a foot controlled drum?   I think it would be fun to try to back up some of the tunes I play with a drum or bhodran type beat (single on-the-beat sound, not a true rapid-fire type bhodran effect) and would like to do it with a foot controlled "drum" of some sort. I'm already tapping my foot as I play anyway  :)

I found an a actual foot drum at "Musician's Friend" and I guess that might work if I muted it with a softer strike pad or covered or changed out the drum surface.

   Thanks,

  --Bill
