Permalink Reply by Tim Quarry on January 24, 2012 at 9:31pm My alternate tunings started in Open D, then Open G, then discovered DADGAD and spent most of my time in that - so much so that when I tuned back to standard it felt fresh and unusual. But somewhere along the line it faded as I ended up playing the same bunch of tunes and now I've gone back to Open G, D (and standard). I only have one regular 6 string acoustic so I've gotten pretty fast at retuning. I'll still tune to DADGAD once in a while, and occasionally even DAAEAE. I have an old acoustic tuned to CGCGCE (or Eb) with a nut extender for lapsteel noodling - I still haven't settled on a preferred tuning for my tenor guitar. So many tunings and only one life.....
Permalink Reply by John Wilson on April 9, 2012 at 9:16am I played a 12-string in DADGAD exclusively for almost 13 years. I actually tuned a step or so lower to CGCFGC or sometimes BF#BEF#B. I did everything from Celtic to playing in my church's worship band in that tuning.
I recently made the decision to move back to standard tuning and I'm playing mostly a nylon-string guitar now, but I still have my old Taylor 555.
