Epiphone Wood? 28 Replies

I'm hearing from many musicians, people who run instrument shops, etc. that Epiphone uses cheap Asian wood. I know that the company is not the same it was when it was American with Greek luthiers,…Continue

Hey Andy,

Beautiful!!!  Hey, is it all black or a sunburst?  The picture makes it look all black, but I thought they only came sunburst...Stranger things have happened...I own a Hofner Icon Beatle bass in sunburst like Pauls. but after I got mine, they came out in a rainbow of colors!  Thanks, Edward

Hi Bob,

Congrats on the Epi LP!  I don't think you can change your picture for individual groups, I think you just have one picture for your "member page" and that gets used for anything you post to!

I just purchased an Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plus from a local music store. I traded my older Ibenez electric. I love everything about it. The picture you see though is of my Takamine  acoustic/electric. I love that guitar also. How do I change to the picture of my Epiphone for this group?

I have one, the neck and action is just right for me and I love the sound it has. Prefer to play it acoustic.

Welcome MIke!  Glad to hear that you love your EJ160E and that you found us here!  I used the electric strings and then changed to the Zebras and really liked those too.  I am playing more as a solo act lately and needed more of acoustic sound so I had a Fishman Matrix Infinity installed in mine and am now using Martin "Bluegrass" strings...medium gauge bottom strings and light on top.  Mine is the Gibson model and it too has the stacked P100 humbucker.  Looking forward to your posts here!

Paul, Edward, Thomas,

Recently subscribed to Acoustic Guitar (after having bought it off the rack for a while) and a 'newbie' to the forum.  I'm a vintage model getting into guitar and got an EJ160E last year (made in Korea but well finished).  Wrote to Gibson/Epi USA for some details on the stacked mini humbucker (as opposed to the P90 on the Gibson) then got it set up (also poles adjusted/balance on the pickup) by a tech.   Have tried it with nickle strings thru a Vox amp and it sounds awesome.  But currently have it strung with DR Zebra strings (a hybrid phosphor bronze and nickel wound) which give a really good acoustic sound and will also work the pickup, though not as good as pure nickel.  Agree with you all, it ticks all the boxes for me, looks, iconic, slightly wider nut which I like and it sounds great, a lot of fun.  I'm currently focused on learning travis/fingerstyle so not much strumming (also still working, not enough $ to retire, so not much free time).

I won't be too active, but will try to keep a lookout on the forum, but your EJ160 post caught my eye as I set up my member page.

All the best, Mike Cee

Doesnanyone in this group other than myself have a EJ-160.  Ed I know you hav the Gibson J-160. If anyone has a EJ-160, tell what you think of the guitar. I love it unplugged. The pup has much to be desired. I will replace it down the road. Let me know what you think.

Paul
