I'm hearing from many musicians, people who run instrument shops, etc. that Epiphone uses cheap Asian wood. I know that the company is not the same it was when it was American with Greek luthiers,…Continue

Paul, Edward, Thomas,

Recently subscribed to Acoustic Guitar (after having bought it off the rack for a while) and a 'newbie' to the forum.  I'm a vintage model getting into guitar and got an EJ160E last year (made in Korea but well finished).  Wrote to Gibson/Epi USA for some details on the stacked mini humbucker (as opposed to the P90 on the Gibson) then got it set up (also poles adjusted/balance on the pickup) by a tech.   Have tried it with nickle strings thru a Vox amp and it sounds awesome.  But currently have it strung with DR Zebra strings (a hybrid phosphor bronze and nickel wound) which give a really good acoustic sound and will also work the pickup, though not as good as pure nickel.  Agree with you all, it ticks all the boxes for me, looks, iconic, slightly wider nut which I like and it sounds great, a lot of fun.  I'm currently focused on learning travis/fingerstyle so not much strumming (also still working, not enough $ to retire, so not much free time).

I won't be too active, but will try to keep a lookout on the forum, but your EJ160 post caught my eye as I set up my member page.

All the best, Mike Cee

I will be interested in who has an EJ160 too Paul...I had a Fishman Matrix Infinity installed in mine and now I get the best of both worlds!  Edward

Doesnanyone in this group other than myself have a EJ-160.  Ed I know you hav the Gibson J-160. If anyone has a EJ-160, tell what you think of the guitar. I love it unplugged. The pup has much to be desired. I will replace it down the road. Let me know what you think.

Hey Rev., Welcome!  How about some pictures of the AJ 100?  We just love this kinda "stuff!"  Thanks, Edward

Hi I'm Rev. Matt. I have an Epiphone AJ-100 with a Fishman Rare Earth soundhole pickup and I've been unashamedly choosing that guitar over my others (Alvarez, Jasmine by Takamine and even my Ovation which I paid $429 for). I love my guitar baby (a.k.a. Ed)!

In know a husband and wife duo where she plays a acoustic and he plays a Gretsch semi works! and it works well!  Edward

Thanks, guys. About three years ago, a blues groups asked me to sit in for their lead guitarist. They wouldn't let play anything but acoustic. We had such a good audience response and so much fun, that I haven't played anything onstage since but acoustic guitar. Although my wife and I have been strictly an acoustic duo, this guitar could change least for jamming.
