I'm hearing from many musicians, people who run instrument shops, etc. that Epiphone uses cheap Asian wood. I know that the company is not the same it was when it was American with Greek luthiers,…Continue

Edward,
I have been looking for that John Lennon Revolution ad (the middle one) in my old guitar magazines. I bought one of the Revolution Casinos last year and wanted to frame it and make a display of the guitar and the ad on my man cave wall. So far I have not found one but know I have one somewhere in those stack of magazines. Do you about what year those were published? - Thanks, Mark Y.

Comment by Dan Allison on August 20, 2012 at 5:08pm Hi Epiphone owners. Thought I would post some photos of my late 70's, Japanese-made epiphone. I've had it since 1979 when I bought it slightly used from a friend who was hard-up for cash. I think I paid him 50 bucks. Technically it wasn't my first guitar, but it was the first one that I actually learned anything on because it is surprisingly easy to play.
I believe it's all laminate, but sounds pretty good for what it is. I recently had the bolt-on neck re-shimmed and frets 1-3 replaced. As you can see, I have worn grooves in the fingerboards over the years. I don't know what wood they're made of, but it was obviously too soft.
Any of you have one of these? I know they were a first guitar for a lot of folks my age (50-something). Still see them for sale on the internet in various states of repair. My luthier said he still sees a surprising number of them in his shop.

Still tempted to possibly lift a small corner and see if it is tanned. Maybe I could use some Stew Mac color touch up. ;-)

Comment by GNuck on June 1, 2012 at 3:47pm Simply beautiful Jason!
Just wish I could do my 2004 AJ however I'm sure the old pick-guard pattern would be very prominent and have a beautiful blond splotch when removed. And I'm assuming the hummingbird or dove pick-guard would not cover the entire area of the old pick-guard.
:-)
