Hi John,

You could try downloading some of our free Mp3's off of our site to jam with at http://www.bluegrassbooksonline.com . Hope that helps.

I have David Grier's Jam Play series on the way from the local bookstore. It covers a handful of standard tunes at slow and medium tempos. Looks to go me, as its a live band of some bluegrass heavyweights.

I picked up the David Grier Jam Along book/cd pack about a week. Its nice, a good variety of tunes, and the backup band of Grier, Matt Flinner, and Todd Phillips are fun to play along with. They keep the tempo reasonable, with Grier playing the standard version of the tune, a more improvised version, and then he plays rhythm so you can practice.

Short of having someone around to play with all the time this seems like a good way to get practice flatpicking.
I've got some of Steve's cd's and they're great. I'm also a pretty good keyboard player and love doing noodling sequences to play to. You might want to invest in band in a box or something similar. You can change the tempo, the key, or the feel.
