Welcome to the Acoustic Guitar Community.

Would like to discover what hymns, choruses, worship songs that you all enjoy playing and singing. I have already heard great posts of beautiful hymns by some of you and would love to hear and share more. Would like to include classic hymns and contemporary worship, sung in congregation (I've heard it called "gang singing"), in small group or even performed as special music, including instrumental arrangements (which I find can be very edifying). If you've discovered any posts of sacred music on the site we may have missed let us know. If you've composed any songs yourselves please share them.
God's blessing to you all

Favorites come and go, and like Rob says, there's no beating some of the old hymns. Only in recent years have I come to really appreciate the depth of meaning of many of the lyrics in those songs that I grew up with in church without paying much attention to. There are some really wonderful new, contemporary arrangements of some of the old hymns that are great to listen to and have the potential of bringing a whole new audience to the old (but still new really) messages.

Other than that, some lasting favorites of mine are "Breathe," "Trading My Sorrows," Jeremy Sinnott's "I Will Seek You," Nicole C. Mullen's "I Know That My Redeemer LIves," "Let Your Glory Fall" by David Ruis, and several by Paul Baloche. Brian & Jen Johnson of Bethel Church in Redding, CA, are doing some wonderful new songs as well. I'm sure there are other "favorites" that don't come to mind right now, in fact too many to list.
The praise band I sing and play with has done many of these you mention. We also rock out to Grace Like Rain and Voice of Truth, and have a great time bluegrass jammin' to Leaning on the Everlasting Arms and I Saw the Light. A couple of my favorites that I haven't seen mentioned are 'God is Good, All the Time' and 'In the Palm of Your Hand' - that one by Alison Krausse - a friend of mine has worked up a killer finger-style accompaniment to that.
My two favorite solo fingerstyle hymns to play are Holy, Holy, Holy and As The Deer. I've been looking for a good intermediate tab for Be Thou My Vision and haven't been able to find one. I shorten most pieces to about a minute and a half to play during the offering. Nothing is more gratifying to me than playing beautiful hymns fingerstyle.

Have you looked at Pete Hutlinger's Hymns Vol 1?

Hi there Reed. I did a Google search and there are a bunch of sites with this tab, although some of them do not follow the chord progression exactly the way they should, you can get an idea of how it should be done.

Take care

Very nice, Rob. We don't get to hear enough of this kind of music these days. Thanks.
Well, despite stage frieght, here is the chorus to "Holy Ground" that I did a few minutes ago. Its not perfect, but just having fun with it.

Why do we get nervous in front of a mic?? LOL

Everlasting God, How Great Is Our God, Amazing Grace, Be Thou My Vision, How Great Thou Art. I suppose the list could go on and on.
I lead a small church choir that sings in masses. i play classical acoustic guitar hooked to a small amp. we also have a lead guitarist but he uses a Washburn electrocoustic. an amateur keyboardist completes the cast of instrumentalists. no big deal really but we enjoy what we do. we also sing in community worships. As regards songs, i like Avalon's "Testify to Love", "Still" by Hillsong. Our lead guitarist made a great series of riffs for the latter song, a statement of his blues upbringing.
I've been using a lot of Indelible Grace music on Sunday mornings (I'm a church planter and lead the worship service). The take the lyrics of the old, doctrinally rich hymns and put them to new acoustic arrangements. I also would consider myself a beginner, so I've been able to several new chords getting them ready for church!
Currently i love to sing and play "Mary don´t you know", "He reigns" (Newsboys), "Forever young" (Dylan) and a german Hymn in kinda punk-style: "Befiehl Du Deine Wege".

Those favorites change regularly - as the Psalms tell us: Sing to the Lord a new song!

God bless ya all!!

Robert
I don't have an exclusive favorite but I like to play songs from worship together and resound worship (England). I learned a bunch of songs from resound worship quickly and I love playing them.
