Buying on Chance 28 Replies

If you're like me, you probably won't buy a guitar unless you can play it first. Is there an exception? That is: What guitar (or which guitars) would you buy without first taking a test drive (on…Continue

On another subject, this morning, at Elderly, I saw  Gibson J-160 John Lennon model for sale for $450 - nothing was mentioned about anything wrong with it.

Just on "Antiques Roadshow" - an 1899 Martin model 121 - looked like a parlour guitar - woman found it in the back of old commercial real estate in a moldy canvas bag - in excellent condition - they said $4000 - $5000 - I thought that a bit low, actually - how many of those can there be in playable condition?
It's part 2 of their newest shows from Atlanta...

If having a few guitars makes one a collector, then I must be one.  Here are a few of my guitars....

Well, I love it!  I love the 150 because it has a little less ornamentation than the J200, like an unbound fingerboard, but still has that classic little reverse mustache at the end of the fingerboard and the classic mustache bridge.  My main stage guitar is a 1994 Centennial model J100 extra...Mine has a plain pickguard (which I like better) and a plain bridge, without the inlay, an unbound headstock, and dot inlays too.  Mine was made in 1994, the 100th Anniversary of Gibson, same guitar as the 93 and 95 but with a special label inside to honor the 100th Anniversary!  Thanks FG for posting!     Edward

Looks too cartoony. Somebody was smokin' the good stuff when they came up with that bridge. I''l never get over it, I guess.
