Buying on Chance 28 Replies

If you're like me, you probably won't buy a guitar unless you can play it first. Is there an exception? That is: What guitar (or which guitars) would you buy without first taking a test drive (on…Continue

I emailed Landola in Finland and got a short reply from the fella who I suppose is the owner.

:"Hi,

We are still in bussines.

Erkki Noromies

Landola"

As I have said the combination of the cedar top and the maplet neck is just exquisite.

This is a shot of the (Peavey) Landola.

I have another (Peavey) Landola and it is one of the sweetest guitars I have ever owned. It is beautiful and it sounds great. Solid wood all around. Well..not the strings.

Hi all.  just received a humidifier guitar display case stand from Acoustic Remedy. After I've had the case a few days I plan on writing a review and posting it here. In the meantime, if anyone has any questions about the case, please ask so I can include those in my review. Of course, my response will be from my own experience; you can always ask questions of the Acoustic Remedy folks themseves.

First impression is that this is one very nice case!

Would anyone like to be able to say they have a guitar made in Costa Rica?  If so, check this out on Goodwill:

Currently $11.99 - 3 days left - a bit rough, but seems functional:

The zero fret does set the string height and yep, it is a bit higher than the first fret. Michael is right, the nut only acts to give the strings the proper spacing.

Comment by Alfred Tirella on August 21, 2012 at 6:47pm

Is that zero fret the same height off of the fretboard, or is it slightly higher than the rest of the frets?  If not the nut, then  that zero fret must set the string height at the headstock end of the guitar, right?

Gull/Alfred -

That is a zero fret. The operating theory behind the zero fret system is to avoid buzzing and intonation problems. The nut acts merely as a string separator while the fret immediately in front of it sets the string length (the string goes over the fret and through the nut) so this really isn't the first fret; it's a zero fret. The nut is ebony. This is the first guitar I've owned that has a zero fret and it seems to work very well. Some banjos use them also, but I've never owned one that does.

I got lucky on this one.

Thanks,

m
