Hi, I just now joined the group. I don't claim to be a guitar 'maker' but I do a lot of repairs, mods and setups. My website is fretwalker.com in case any of you care to check it out. I have some questions some of you may help me with.

As most of you know, the 'S' in the Takamine model type stands for 'solid' top. I recently acquired a F-340SD and the first thing I noticed was its light weight. When I looked closer at the inside it appears to have a solid back as well as top.

If any of you know more about this please let me know.

Also, have any of you have had any experience with the Artec AB-1 pre-amp and PP607 pickup? Thanks.

Years ago I built a tenor guitar...it is an 8 string of my own design. Here is a link to my site with photos and description of mine! Let me know what you think! Edward

Has anyone come a crossed plans for sale of a tenor guitar. Namely the Martin tenors. I am interested in the tie between the guitar and the tenor banjo.

Let me know if anyone might know where to find them if.

Hello Rob,

In answer to your question about Rainsong guitars. I have played one near the factory that they are build (Seattle area). They are diffenently good for all the reasons that you listed. They are more durable and more resist to change due to humidity flux and related damage etc.

To me it was purely a matter of taste. They lack a bit of the response in the bass range that you would get from a lightly build solid wood guitar in my opinion. Instead of a wooden sustain sound you might here a metalic resonance(at least I did). But this metalic sound was more appsrent when unplugged. Plugged in it was nearly impossible to distiquish from an all wood guitar. Good action, nice feel.

I am a purist though. I will stick with my martins and gibson of yonder year. If I were to do a lot of live touring and performing... I would get a rainsong for sure.

My apologies for sending this by email instead of posting it. I've been away from the site for a while and forgot the right button to push. -R

Hey Learned Builders -

I have a question. I"m considering picking up a Rainsong A-WS1000NT. I've heard people play them and they sound great, but I haven't played one myself and as I would pretty much have to order one and then return it if I don't like it, I was wondering what people thought about the sound. I like the idea of having a humidity-proof guitar as I travel and go to festival (Falcon Ridge/Rocky Mountain) where rain just happens and the altitude and dryness/wetness is always fun.

I have a Martin 00016-GTE, Babicz Jumbo and my trusty old Samick D-16 as guitars that would sit beside this new member of the fleet. Any opinions?

Thanks,

Rob
