Glad you like your Lowden!  Why else buy one?

I have two, an F32C (c1992) and an S7C (c1989).  The S7C is an O sized cutaway guitar with a spruce top and mahogany back and a slightly narrower neck than most (I'm guessing 1 and 5/8ths or 1 and 11/16ths).  That one has an oddly boxy sound.  It is a bit atypical for Lowdens in that it isn't as heavy on the overtones.  It's a great strummer.  The F32C is a great fingerstyle guitar with all the overtones you'd expect from a Lowden.

I just bought a Lowden O35 and it's amazing.  I was in a guitar shop in Chicago (the Music Exchange) and just happened to be searching for a new acoustic on the same day a local luthier was in the store.  We were in a room full of Martin, Gibson, Santa Cruz and Collings guitars and he was "tapping the tops" of all of them - then he pointed to this Lowden O35 and said "if you want a professional opinion - this is the best guitar in the whole shop".  I picked it up, played it and determined he was absolutely right!  It resonated like no other guitar I've ever played - including my Ditson Dreadnought III, my Guild and my Taylor.  It's the best sound guitar I've ever heard and I couldn't be happier.  I'd love to hear other people's opinions on their Lowdens.

Hi Jim and Regan.  Welcome to the group!

It was the old Lowden discussion group that prompted me to start this one.  I've got some of the Gettin' Lowden Here CDs.  I'll have to find your contributions Jim.

There certainly aren't as many of us Lowden owners around as there are Martin or Gibson owners (very active groups).  However, Lowdens are different.

I have an S7C (c1989) and an F32C (c1992).  The S7C is an O size with a spruce top and mahogany back and sides.  Also has a roughly 1 11/16th in. at the nut fretboard, so narrower than most.  Great strumming guitar, but the long scale is getting a bit tough on my aging hands.  The F32C is spruce and Indian rosewood with a cutaway.  Very pretty guitar.  Great for fingerstyle, but the overtones which make it a great fingerstyle guitar make it less than ideal for strumming.

I bought both mine new from The Guitar Shop in DC.  On the F32C, I originally bought an F32, but the neck started coming up, so Stephen, who owns the shop, got them to make me another and I asked for the cutaway.

I'm wondering if there are other unique things about us as Lowden players.  That is, why do we have them instead of (or in addition to) Gibsons and Martins?  For me, it's the unique, open and airy sound.

Hello:  I have a lefty F12 that I bought in 1997. I also had an S25 that I bought in 2001 but sold it a few years ago; never really connected with it.

I was a member of the old Lowden Discussion Group which I think still exists today maybe on Yahoo Groups, not sure. I also contributed two original fingerstyle tunes to the "It's Getting Lowden Here" compilation CD done by that group, in 1998. Looking forward to meeting some new Lowden players.

Hello??? Anybody there?.. It seems that the group is just starting out.. but I'm glad to chip in. My name is Regan Mulligan and I just acquired a '97 Lowden O12C from an EBay acquaintance. Great guitar.. and for me a very special experience. I think the combination of the wider neck, long-scale and light build.. and the Lowden touch makes for a terrific fingerstyle guitar. I've played some of the newer ones, and was close to ordering one, but I couldn't do it without playing it. Plus, I think the wood choices and combinations are really nice and sonically complimentary - especially the cedar and walnut.. very cool.
