Songs of desperation, songs of love, songs of the darker moments that can still move us and inspire us. Post your thoughts, share lyrics, explore some artists who weave in and out of these places.

A couple of us have been sort of discussing this song at another group. The discussion came about as ancillary to someone stating that a relative of his wrote a somewhat well-known song and someone…Continue

Comment by Michael S. Jackson on February 26, 2012 at 11:07am Hi, Brent!
Pretty good group here, though we're not as active as we once were. You'll find intense camaraderie strengthened not be flowery praise of each other and the music, but through disagreements and lively discussons.
We keep it civil, though, and we all learn a lot.

Comment by Ken Brodie on December 25, 2011 at 8:18pm Okay - I have a suggestion. Songs brought about through the romance or the curse of drinking. Shane McGowan of the Pogues is a tragic figure as the result of excess drinking and drugs however the man wrote some of the most inspiring and moving lyrics I have ever read.
It was Christmas Eve Babe - In the drunk tank
An old man said to me Won't see another one
And then they sang a song - The rare Old Mountain Dew
I turned my face away And dreamed about you. etc
Songs inspired by or that tell a story of - the curse or blessings of alcohol - A possible topic for discussion:)

Comment by Ken Brodie on December 25, 2011 at 8:06pm Slainte - Cheers - generally an Irish drinking toast - to your health. My father used to toast with the word Slaandjivaa (to your health) the Gaelic Scots version - Kenny B - yep that's a decent two fingers. My band were working on an album which we never completed entitled Two Fingers No Ice.
Michael S Jackson how could you consider that li'l old me would even consider a bad thing to you gentlemen:-)
Ed - Smooth Talkin' - you Silver Fox you:-)
Great to see most of us back online here. Now all we need is some controversial, interesting lyrical analysing to get us back into it in the New Year. Come on Michael, stir the pot my friend.
Comment by Edward Sparks on December 25, 2011 at 1:39pm Ken, If I got tickets to see CSN again I would celebrate with a handful of whiskey too!!! Hope you will get some good photos and share them with us here! Thanks for the "Hogmanay" definition. One of my bandmates is Scottish and I will see him today and ask him is he knows what that is! Edward
P.S. I don't know what Slainte' is either...educate us foreigners man!
Comment by Ken Bellingham on December 25, 2011 at 12:54pm @ Ken Brodie: I imagine this is an old cliche, but I had an uncle who would ask you to just pour him two fingers worth and then raise his forearm across his chest with closed fist and extend his index finger and pinkie out to the side.
Comment by Michael S. Jackson on December 25, 2011 at 11:04am Now that I know what Hogmany is, I'd like to know what slainte' is...
Hogmany and slainte' (unless the latter is a bad thing) to all,
