Comment by Michael S. Jackson on July 4, 2011 at 12:18pm Blackville - I began playng a couple of years after you. I used to go to every place I could find where a band was playing and I'd sit in front and study every chord and move they made then run home and try to duplicate it. I learned barre chords (E and A position) this way, too.
It wasn't until Cosmos Factory (CCR) came out that I saw my first guitar book. I recall being amazed at how the chords were listed right there in front of me and I couldn't believe they'd do that! I always thought music was some sort of closely guarded secret.
I still have that book. Even though I learned an E chord, D chord, and an A chord from watching a group play "Gloria," I learned the G, Am, Em, and several others from that book. I also learned that I was playing the D chord incorrectly.
I agree with you - if that book was so much of a miracle to me back then... imagine how I would feel if I had all the stuff that is out there today!?!
If you don't mind, which You Tube video did you use to learn "Norwegian Wood?" I play it but am always interested to see how others do it and when you used the word "correctly" it really got my attention! Might be a repeat of the D chord incident!
Thanks much - m
