Joe,
My opinion may seem a bit biased since I have an endorsement from D'addario but I prefer the custom lights (EJ26) (011,015,022,032,042,052). Not too bright and sound great. What are you looking for? Ovations are already very bright so I am betting not more of that.
Eric.
The Factory ships them with D'Add EXP16 or Adamas 1818. With the caveat that these are personal opinions and YMMV, and I don't have any financial interest in any of these products, here are my observations. I usually use D'Add EJ16 on my Ovations. They don't last as long as the EXP16, but then again my body chemistry is pretty rough on all strings and I wear out the coated strings much faster than their cost justifies. I've never liked Elixirs, they just sound dead to me right out of the box - but they do sound better after a bit of use. Right now I have Cleartone EMPs on all 3 of my Adamas and I'm really liking those. They're a bit pricier than other coated strings, but they're lasting a heckuva lot longer for me than any other string I've tried.
My newest guitar is an Ovation iDea and the music store here recomends EXP16 coated light gauge strings for my Ovation. I have enjoyed playing with these strings because of the easy action on the fret board.
I put some Martin Acoustic FX (flexible core) light 0.12 to 0.54 on my ovation applause and it was a little easier to play. Also if my fingers get tired I put a capo on and it makes it a little easier. Someday maybe I'll try messing with the bridge to get the strings a little closer to my fretboard. (maybe)
thanks everybody for your feedback . I have tried ej 16,exp11,martins it seems like the coated bronze strings sound the best.I know that it is all a personal preference it seems like the exp 11 are hard to find around my area.
I'm all for supporting the local mom&pop music store, but if you can't find the strings you want locally there are a few online sources that are excellent. Two of the best are juststrings and stringsand beyond
thanks i checked these web sight and i can get exp 11 for half the price i normaly pay when i can get them
