Hi Nodehopper!

I saw your post and also play similar music. When I joined this group I had hoped to start meeting lots of guitar players in the Sac area. Hasn't quite worked  that way. Sac Guitar Society is mostly classical, so I am interested in starting/joining a group that is more your/my type music. Auburn is a bit far, but maybe we could work out something in-between if there is interest among other members of this group. I saw Eric Bibb this wkend in Sac. Great show!! Saw him earlier this year up in Grass Valley at CSA.

If you want to chat more with me about our favorite kind of music, feel free, either here or at johnjc@surewest.net.

Thanks.

HI...I live just above Auburn. I have been playing for just a few years...mostly folk, blues, bluegrass, Americana type music. Just started playing with a pick 8 months ago to accommodate jamming with a couple guys once a week ...2 other guitar players and a Mandolin.

I am hosting an acoustic jam on the Second Saturday of each month (next Sat).  It is open to anyone and music ranges from bluegrass, country, folk, blues, contempory.  We usually have 5-10 players.  It is in Modesto, CA from 2PM to 5:30PM. If you are interested, contact me at rich.dyer09@yahoo.com

That's what I was looking for.  It's a challenge.  I've learned alot from several web sites.  One is Truefire.com & my favorite is fredericmesnier.com  At this site you can buy all levels of music with tabs for about $5 each.  You can then watch the video of Frederic playing the songs so it is easy to learn.  His technique is classical but he has Pop, Blues, Xmas, etc.  The more I play, even blues I find I'm migrating to a classical style because it is really where your fretting hand needs to be to get good.

Thank you Mark, I will check that out. I am really just looking for someone to hang out with sometimes, share techniques, and learn things from/teach to. I recently re-took up guitar and I just don't know anyone on my level, or better that I can exchange with.

I'm  still here.  I've never had a comment from Jim. So I think he's moved on.  I've joined the Sacramento guitar society  www.sacramentoguitarsociety.org   Its the only guitar group I could find.  Its mostly classical, but they are a good group.  I play fingerstyle blues & whatever so its a good group for me.

I know that it may be a little way for you to travel, but we have a jam session every Saturday from 3 - 5 pm at Ingram &Braun Music at 503 Bangs Ave Modesto, CA. It is a very friendly group and normally has 8 - 12 players each week. We also have a jam session at one of the farms locally on Wednesday evenings (12 -25 people each night)

Jim, are you still looking for someone to jam with. I have gotten pretty good and have been studying theory. I'd like to find someone to jam with and even take soem lessons from.

I just joined. I started playing about 2-3 years ago just for my own enjoyment. Now I'm looking to meet others who can encourage me on to better playing. I was looking for a local finger style guitar club or association.
