Welcome to the Acoustic Guitar Community.

Dear friends, I'd like to know if you do suffer (as I do!) the change of your voice by aging... I remember I used to sing the Beatles, the Led Zeppelin, the Uriah Heep and others... the same tone they did then. Now it's just a memory... I'm almost 58, still a smoker (I know, I know...) and I can't sing a lot of those songs. I don't like to low the tone of (for instance) "The Wizard" of the Uriah Heep, that starts in C, F, Bb... and jumps to an incredible high G... that I was able to reach in "souplesse", and now I sing in the lower octave! Or as the final part of "Stairway to Heaven"... terrible! As I'm not a trained singer, I don't have falsetto voice, I always sing from the chest... and I'm not able anymore to keep a note for the time it should last. Is it normal? Do you experience the same?

I'm a pirate definitely looking way past 40 ...

Wow, Last night for some reason I tried to yodel. I couldn't do it.  I use to yodel, can't remember when I last tried.  I never sing in my falsetto because I think it sound horrible, never have sung in it.  So when I tried last night and couldn't I was a very surprised.  I thought maybe something is wrong with my voice. (other than the obvious). So it is good to know others have had this gift.  Well for me it probably is a gift for everyone else. I probably should sing at all.

Me too. I discovered I could no longer yodel when "Oh Brother Where Art Thou" came out and I learned "In the Jailhouse Now." I've tried many times since and can do it a little bit but not like I used to.

As you said, probably a good thing...

Hey Antonio - Had a gig on the weekend where I played guitar and sang harmonies for a wonderful young singer. For the first time ever I couldn't hit some of my high notes . Quickly readjusted and sang low harmonies instead as the falsetto doesn't have the same power required for the particular song. So yep - I now understand but I don't smoke and it's never too late:)

It's never too late to start smoking?... Or to have a gig with a young (female) singer? Ahahaha....

Thanks everybody guys... I feel less alone with voice changing!

That go for me as well!

Whatever keeps you young and happy even though certain bits and pieces may be a little strained:)

I just turned 64 and I can assure you this would have sounded a whole lot different in 1968
