1968 Gibson LG-0 ... pros & cons, anyone? 12 Replies

I've never owned any Gibson and I realize this model is not exactly the premier example, but I have a chance to acquire a 1968 LG-0 and before I drive an hour to look at it, I'd appreciate some…Continue

String gauge / Martin size 5 4 Replies

Hallo - I've recently started playing my ’35 Martin 5-17t again and I'm finding the string gauge annoyingly narrow. I use a 13 (gauge of the high e) on my dread and a 12 on both my 00 and size 2…Continue

Happy Easter everyone. Here's my latest arrangement of "When I Survey the Wondrous Cross" to celebrate: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zi_2PDcZ0NU.

These do not fall in the affordable catagory, but I went up to Tiburon North of S.F. last Saturday to Schoenberg Guitars and played several antique Martins and the like and then a few Shoenbergs. One Parlor Shoenberg made with Honduran Birdseye Rosewood (really spectacular) seemed to play itself........I didn't even bother to ask how much. Then yesterday at Sylvan Music in Santa Cruz on the coast just West of San Jose, I played some Santa Cruz guitars, some Lowdens and several Goodalls. A 000 short scale Goodall with 1 13/16" nut was a real power house and played like a dream. Do you guys ever see/play these brand names wherever you are from? It seems to me the small body 12 fret guitars are becoming more prevalent wherever I go. My personal taste is short scale 12 fretters with cutaway, but there are many possibilities.

I played an "000" Loar at a grand opening of our local guitar shop, well it was a grand opening where they moved to a new much bigger location. The Loar really played great, loved the small body it had and it was a beautiful instrument.

I also won an M-Audio recording setup called Avid Recording Studio

http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/AvidRecordingStudio.html

at their raffle. Has the M-Audio USB box for the computer and ProTools SE. But I'm going to sell it since I have several other USB Digital Workstations already.

It was a great grand opeining, they had the owner of Gretch Guitars there, and vice president of Crafter Guitars and some great presentations and giveaways.

Hey there FloridaGull!

Actually I traded it for an Epiphone Masterbilt AJ500 and $25.00 difference. I love the Masterbilt and play it everyday where as my Dot sat in the case untouched. I just wish my AJ500 was the smaller Masterbilt with the 1 3/4" neck, but I still really like it just the same. Plays and sounds great.

You'll probably find a nice Coastline Cedar Folk with QI - and the 1.8" nut - soon enough...

Last week, I saw and played a lovely little used Simon & Patrick Woodland Cedar Folk model at GC that was only $199 and it had a Fishman soundhole pick-up installed!  Since S&Ps have the 1.72 inch nut, I hesitated to buy it.  Wanted to think it over.  Went back today and of course it was gone.  That was probably a great deal and I now have a bit of non-buyers remorse, LOL.

Hey Gary!
Awhile ago I think I remember you saying you were thinking of selling your Epiphone Dot. Are you still? My son's birthday is April 25th...

Welcome to the group Nic, love the cover song (Hana) in the video. You did a great job, also like the Seagull you're playing.
