Phil Manuel's mention of Townes Van Zandt reminded me of this song I wrote several years ago as a tribute to him. I have always been a big fan and wrote this after reading two different biographies. Patrick Sharpe did a wonderful job performing the song and made it more than it would have been otherwise in my opinion.

Here's a link to Part 1 my recent interview with US Podcaster, Blogger, Streaming Service and all round great supporters of independent musicians Middle Tennessee Music or MTM. The full interview will be podcast at some point April I think along with some exclusive stuff. It is not so much about guitars as it is about songwriting, the music business, independent musicians but it might interest some.

Yesterday, I was sitting around with my guitar, thinking about Townes Van Zandt, as it was his birth date.  My muse came to me and gave me this song, simple chords, and the lyrics just flowed.  So, I'm posting here in honor of an artist who continues to inspire me, the late great Townes Van Zandt.

Hi Folks, thought I would post this tune for your fine ears to pick apart. Its off the new album from my band The Straw Men. Leave some feedback please, its arranged for acoustic guitar (capo on 5th, tuned to standard E) and bouzouki. Hope you all enjoy it. https://soundcloud.com/paulstokesmusic/floydis-fire?in=paulstokesmu...

Like most groups on Acoustic Guitar Online, only about 10-15% of those listed as members actually participate in discussions.

Hey Tom.

I'm not sure what the answer to your question is, but it sounds like a great topic for a song, or maybe a few songs.

I Can't Imagine.mp3

Here's another one I wrote about my wife for her birthday last year.

As you can tell I don't have the "old song/current love" dilemma because my old love is my current love. I think it would be tough to continue to play/sing a love song written for someone who was no longer emotionally connected, unless it's about pining for someone's love or lost love or something like that.

Thanks! I like yours too. Great finger picking! I hope your wife appreciates it.

Hey Tom....cool song. Great groove to it and good guitar licks....

Yep, sometimes women just get stuck in our heads and no matter what we do, they're what's going on in our minds.
