Laminate (?) Peeling Off Headstock 4 Replies

I have a 415 Jumbo (2001). A year or two ago I noticed light-shaded rings around the tuning posts. These gradually got bigger, and finally I realized that they were sort like bubbles. I could pick at…Continue

That's gorgeous, Paul!  Personally, I've never seen an 800 series in sunburst, but it looks amazing.

Hey Guys

I got a call from Long&Mcquade last night to tell me that my 814ce I had ordered had arrived.  Originaly they said it was delayed until the middle of January.  This is the first time I've put it down since I picked it up this afternoon.  This is the finest guitar I have ever owned.

Hey Paul, You wouldn't play the 410 once you got the 814 is an understatement! I have a 814ce Fall 2006 LTD and it is pretty amazing!

Mark ... I haven't played either one of them, but just looking at the specs in the review, they appear to be completely different guitars to me.  The DDX has a longer scale, deeper body, and narrower nut, on top of laminate construction.  Not that any of this should be considered inferior ... it just seems that it would  make the DDX play, and perhaps even sound completely different from the Doyle Signature.
Sort of like apples and oranges other than the Taylor name on the headstock.

Thanks for the link, Jud - an interesting article that does a good job of outlining the differences.  Have you (or has anyone) had an opportunity to play them head-to-head and compare their sound?

Mark ... The July issue of Acoustic Guitar Magazine has a nice review of the Doyle Deluxe and give several of the differences between that model and the Doyle Signature:  Here's the link:

Hey, Freddy, were you able to compare the Doyle Dykes signature model with the Doyle Deluxe?  I'm not sure what all the differences are, but I've been curious how they compare.
