If anyone is interested in a used Taylor 12-string, I am selling my GA4-12.  It is listed on ebay:

I don't think you should worry too much that the one you get will be very different to the one you tried out. I understand Taylor use CNC production and highly automated assembly to produce their guitars so they should all be the same in theory. Frankly I find the biggest differences in tone are down to the type of strings I am using and other daft things like the length of my finger nails or the type of plectrum. They all probably affect tone more than the slight differences between identically machine produced guitars.

@Floridagull ... I'll go you one better.  Here's a video of one person's Top-15 acoustic guitar players and Justin King is among them ... so enjoy 15 for the price of one!!

Check out a video on you tube from a guy named Justin King - a 15 year old playing a Taylor (I think) - amazing!  I can't post the link - perhaps one of you who finds it can post a link?  Thanks in advance... :-)

Happy to report ... I'm still happy ... thanks to Taylor consistency!

A few weeks ago, I fell in love with a particular Taylor GA3-12 at a GC in Atlanta.  Played it for an hour or so and decided I had to have one.

I returned home to Raleigh and visited my local Taylor/Martin dealer where I've bought other guitars and they gave me a price that beat GC, so I placed the order!

Meanwhile some buyer's remorse started to set in ... I started to worry that I might have fallen in love with that particular Taylor in Atlanta and that the one I ordered might not measure up.

Well, I still don't know if my fears might ultimately be realized, but yesterday, I visited GC in Raleigh and they had a brand new Taylor GA3-12 on the wall.  I happily took it down and was overjoyed to find that it felt, sounded and played identical to the one I'd played in Atlanta.

Can't wait until my new one comes in from Taylor factory and I'm now pretty well convinced that I'm going to love it!!

BTW:  GC has there's discounted from MAP to $1,299+tax ... my little local shop ordered mine for $1,150+tax.  Probably GC would have matched that price, but I love my shop and I'm happy to wait on the order just to give them the sale.

I don't care what he plays, he's a hell of a guitarist.  I'll always appreciate Taylor's introduction to me of Doyle on their demo CD, "Wood and Steel."  I like Guilds too.

Another interesting fact is that Doyle Dyke has been playing Guilds for quite some time. It isn't really a new thing, so the switch to Fender/Guild is quite natural.

Doyle Dykes basically got a better deal. Taylor doesn't officially do endorsements so when he got the opportunity to move to Fender/Guild (which by the way is going to be putting more resources into their acoustic lines), he took it. Can't say I blame him. I personally believe Taylor is in that place right now where they think they are better than they actually are. Don't get me wrong, I own 3 Taylors, and they are quite good, but owning one is NOT a religious experience, as might be surmised when reading their literature or visiting their web site. As for Doyle Dykes, you can get the details directly from him on his Facebook wall if you dig around some, or here: http://www.doyledykes.com/1-23-12/

Doyle Dykes is no longer associated with Taylor according to what I've told.  He now plays a Guild ,,, just looking for details from Taylor fans.
