Strings for the 414CE?  I kept playing this guitar so I finally got one.  The Ovangkol is simply a sound I really like. I got it used and it was set up with Ernie Ball's but I put Elixirs back on Custom Lights.

Are 12's or 13's much better?  How about other brands--I know Elixirs come with the axe?

This is a very special sounding guitar--I am not real crazy about the sound of rosewood Taylors over Martins but this guitar is something very special soundwise.

Oh, in that case, should be fine if it holds.

Paul - it should be ok, just not ideal since the string may slip.  It's an easy mistake to make...

Hi Jud

It sounds fine, because I put the A and E strings into the correct possition once I noticed the mistake.  Maybe my original comment didn't make that clear.  So the tuning is the standard EADGBE.  My only concern is that the A sting only has about a wind and a half around the tuning peg.  I've been playing it now for a half hour or so, and it seems to be staying in tune, so it should be okay.  The lesson of course is, pay attention to what I am doing.

Paul ... I haven't done that yet, but I've come close a couple of times.  Personally, I'd bite the bullet, chalk it up to experience, and get a new set.  Otherwise you're looking at living with this situation for 4-6 weeks.  That's just me.  If it sounds okay to you, let it alone.  It would drive me crazy, I think ... :-(

Hello everyone

Let me file this under "I can't believe I'm so dumb!"

I was just changing my strings, and I wasn't really paying attention and somehow put the A string where the E should go and vice versa.  Of course I didn't notice until after I cut the ends off.  I have tuned to pitch, and it sounds fine, but the A string only has one or maybe one and a half winds around the peg.  Should I replace the A string, and break up a set (of Elixers) or do you think it will stay in tune?

I can't believe I did this!
