If you really want to see progress get some lessons from Jamie or post to the Workshop forum. My lessons with her have stopped from throwing the guitar in the closet and I haven't been the easiet of students. I can finally play things I only dreamed about and my family actually enjoys hearing the music when I am in the practice mode. They used to cringe when I practiced. hahahaha

hey...im very new to acoustiic guitar...know several chords  just have problem with the strumming part if anyone has some advise please shear....thanks

Hey everyone. I'm Vern from Gainesville, VA. I've been playing now for about 6 years. Really got into it after I retired from the Navy in 2004. I've taken lessons and now kind of learning on my own but now I need a jumping off point. I mainly play rhythm guitar and do alot of back picking to add more to a song. I own a Fender 6 string acoustic, a Takamine acoustic- electric, a Seagull 12 string and a Godin electric guitar. Bluegrass and gospel bluegrass, blues are my favorites. I'd to learn more about chord progressions and want to learn more that just playing open chords.

I got my first guitar in 1975, took a couple of lessons in 1982 and really started playing (around) in 1991. I keep meaning to take lessons with the times never really work out for me with work, school and family. I never got the hang of holding a flat pick, so I play "ukulele style" using my index finger as a pick; I know the sound is softer but it's a trade off.

The F chord depends on the half bar. Many players do not have the proper muscle development needed to do it well. Here is a special exercise which will give you that development

F...I still have a hard time with the open F chord! I can play the Barre version OK. Just takes me forever to fret it. When I try to play the open chord F I can't get the B and high E strings fretted right without muting the G string or mass fret buzz! Other then "keep practiceing" what can help me to master the open F chord?
