Some of you know that CNN came to Richmond several weeks ago to film a segment about our local Guitars For Vets chapter for a Veteran's Day special. We had several teachers and students on hand and Richmond Music Center kindly allowed us to use their store for our "studio space" for the filming.

I just heard from the producer and was told that our story was so compelling that it will be featured on CNN Headline News this Friday starting at 11:30am, and the Focus On Veterans special will air on SAT  11/12 starting at 2:30pm EST.  The segment will also go live on the CNN website on Saturday. I will receive the link and will post it as soon as I have it. We can then post the link to the G4V website. I was told that the CNN execs were extremely pleased with all the content we were able to provide, thus we make Headline news!! This was a gift from above when the producer called me, and it came together in a short amount of time.

I am so excited about this and hope some of you will be able to view the feature!

Hi all,

I thought that some of you on this site might be interested and perhaps gratified to learn about a program of acoustic music, song, and readings that is being presented in our area in observance of upcoming Veterans' Day and in support of local veterans' organizations.  This will be the third year that Nell Robinson ( has put on her program called "Soldiers' Stories" at our popular Freight & Salvage venue ( on Veterans' Day.  Proceeds from this year's program will go to the Coming Home Project (

She has recruited some stellar musicians to join her on stage, and the program has been well received in the past.  In fact, this year her program will be perfomed on consecutive days in several northern California towns, and next month she will bring it to the east coast for two performances, including one at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC.  This collaboration of talent is an endeavor of heartfelt caring and concern.

You'd be surprised by just how many songs begin with the Chorus.  I've seen a lot of them over the 50+ years I've been playing music in various bands.  It's a good change up from the standard verse first composition.  And then you place a nice Bridge and it adds even more.  You did all of that.  Like I said, Very Nice!

I look forward to your lead sheets.  I sent the link to my band's front man, and the rest of the band for that matter, to get their feedback.  I think it will be positive.

Thanks. I really appreciate the feedback.

I have the lyrics written out, but haven't done a lead sheet. I should have. During recording we found there's several time changes. We had to make a click track on the fly.

I can get you a lead sheet. Just give me a little time.

A quick note. It's all in first position in Dm.

Chorus: Dm, Dm/A, Dm/F, Dm/A, C, C/E, Dm, Dm/A

Verse: G7, C, Dm

Bridge: B-flat, A5 (fifth, third and second strings only) Dm

The order is a little odd: Chorus, Verse, Chorus, Verse, Bridge, Chorus

Ikrami,  Very Very Nice!  You're quite good my friend, quite good.  I really enjoyed that.  Any chance of getting the lyrics and chords for this?  I play in a C&W band and we play a lot more than simply C&W.  We're always looking for "Veteran" related songs to do, and we always give full credit to the authors of the music.

I joined this group not because I'm a veteran, but because I wrote a song called Veteran's Day and thought this group might be interested.

I just posted it to You Tube. The lyrics are Close Captioned.

Hey Mike,
I've been so busy with work but need to contact AG about doing an article! Have not forgotten. I'm hoping the upcoming CNN special will bring good things our way. This is a terrific promotion for our program!

Hi Sam! good to read your post and to know how much music has played a part in your life. I work with Veterans in the Guitars For Vets program in my home town of Richmond, VA. In fact, CNN interviewed us last week for a special that will air on Veteran's Day. When I find out the time, I will post it here. The focus will be on our program and its importance to our veteran
students. I hope some of you will have a chance to see it.

Hello Samuel,

Nice to make your acquaintance and glad to have you join this group.  I agree with you totally that music can be a salve for your soul.  I find it can be a solace and a joy, whether playing alone or in a group.
