Comment by Ken Bellingham on November 7, 2011 at 2:12pm Hi all,
I thought that some of you on this site might be interested and perhaps gratified to learn about a program of acoustic music, song, and readings that is being presented in our area in observance of upcoming Veterans' Day and in support of local veterans' organizations. This will be the third year that Nell Robinson (http://www.nellrobinsonmusic.com/) has put on her program called "Soldiers' Stories" at our popular Freight & Salvage venue (http://www.thefreight.org/soldier-stories-0) on Veterans' Day. Proceeds from this year's program will go to the Coming Home Project (http://www.cominghomeproject.net/).
She has recruited some stellar musicians to join her on stage, and the program has been well received in the past. In fact, this year her program will be perfomed on consecutive days in several northern California towns, and next month she will bring it to the east coast for two performances, including one at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC. This collaboration of talent is an endeavor of heartfelt caring and concern.
Comment by Sam Camden on October 28, 2011 at 10:55am You'd be surprised by just how many songs begin with the Chorus. I've seen a lot of them over the 50+ years I've been playing music in various bands. It's a good change up from the standard verse first composition. And then you place a nice Bridge and it adds even more. You did all of that. Like I said, Very Nice!
I look forward to your lead sheets. I sent the link to my band's front man, and the rest of the band for that matter, to get their feedback. I think it will be positive.
Comment by eyekrameye on October 28, 2011 at 9:30am Thanks. I really appreciate the feedback.
I have the lyrics written out, but haven't done a lead sheet. I should have. During recording we found there's several time changes. We had to make a click track on the fly.
I can get you a lead sheet. Just give me a little time.
A quick note. It's all in first position in Dm.
Chorus: Dm, Dm/A, Dm/F, Dm/A, C, C/E, Dm, Dm/A
Verse: G7, C, Dm
Bridge: B-flat, A5 (fifth, third and second strings only) Dm
The order is a little odd: Chorus, Verse, Chorus, Verse, Bridge, Chorus

Comment by eyekrameye on October 28, 2011 at 4:28am I joined this group not because I'm a veteran, but because I wrote a song called Veteran's Day and thought this group might be interested.
I just posted it to You Tube. The lyrics are Close Captioned.

Comment by Ken Bellingham on October 26, 2011 at 11:19am Hello Samuel,
Nice to make your acquaintance and glad to have you join this group. I agree with you totally that music can be a salve for your soul. I find it can be a solace and a joy, whether playing alone or in a group.
Comment by Sam Camden on October 26, 2011 at 10:43am I didn't take my guitar in-country, but I did buy one through the exchange system and had it shipped to me. It was an inexpensive Yamaha.
My name is Sam. I'm a retired USAF E-8. Vietnam vet. Still play at the ripe old age of 66, soon to be 67. I have a Taylor 816CE, a Yairi DY-59, a Little Martin with the solid spruce top, and a couple of electrics. I also own a number of electric basses as that is my primary instrument. Currently play in three bands, two as a bassist (country rock/heavy on the rock, and country/all era's), one as a guitarist (church praise band).
I've been using music to salve my soul since I was a single didget kid. Best thing in the world for what ails ya'!
