Where I'm coming from

Just wanted to say something about the things I'm singing. Mostly what I do is to take scripture that I enjoy or that is shared with me and put it to music. I have found that making up tunes to Bible verses is a joy. I sing these all the time.

I don't do professional recordings. Most of this is just so I can go back to hear the songs if I forget how to play them. I could spend more time polishing them, but usually I'm already onto another song. Most recording I do is thru a Snowball USB mic int… Continue

The Winter NAMM Show is always in Anneheim, CA. in mid January. They will be available in stores by February. Stores can order from their Kyser wholesaler. The chord voicings are really fun to play and write with.
Thanks, Greg

Hi BrotherX - I have installed a ribbon pickup under the saddle before and can advise to make sure that the bridge slot is big enough so the pickup can lay flat on the bottom of the slot and when you file or sand the saddle, make sure the saddle bottom is as flat as possible. This will insure that the pickup will give you the sound that it is designed to do. I've never installed a preamp but I have installed an end pin jack. There are many websites that illustrate the procedure. I think the most important thing there is to put masking tape around the area you're going to drill so that you don't damage the guitar finish. Good luck with your project !

Thanks, looking forward to working with my guitar, I have a lot of time right now with the off season starting at work. I just got off this morning and have a long weekend ahead, so I should have lots of time to practice. Thanks again BrotherX for the shout.

I mainly use the Takamine steel string acoustic electric and the Takamine classical acoustic electric to record with (you had them pegged right). I have tried a few songs with my electrics and the Les Paul in particular records pretty good. I like the sound of your Samson C03U mike that you use. It's very clear. You mentioned you were going to install a Baggs Micro EQ preamp on your 12 string. Their manual (on the internet) says they were designed to be used with their (of course) ribbon transducer pickups. I'm going to upload another hymn that has a weird arrangement. I got the idea from the Isaacs version of the song. This one uses the steel string Takamine and the keyboard is doing the bagpipe and drum sound....

I like your idea of making up tunes to Bible verses and I enjoyed Acts_4_12 . Have you ever added any harmony parts ? I posted a couple of gospel tunes today but had to be careful to make sure they're in public domain so I don't get in trouble with the copyright folks. Keep on singing the Bible verses ! - Bob

The Winter NAMM Show is always in January in Anaheim, CA. The capos will be in store by February and if your store doesn't have them at that time, please request they stock them. Their regular Kyser wholesaler will have them. Thanks for you response and let me know how you like them next Feb. Greg

Tried out a Samson C03U which is a USB mic on a tune I wrote yesterday. Listen to Acts_4_12 over there in the music box. A big advantage over the Snowball is that I can put it on my boom mic and get right up next to it. But writing this caused me to look at it again. I had it the little stand the Snowball came with and never thought about unscrewing it and attaching it to the boom mic. Looks like it should work. Nothing like seeing something new. I'll get another track up for comparison soon. I bet it sounds better the closer you can get to it.
