Hi Chris, Your D18 is one of Martin's Dreadnaught models, and one of the benchmarks in the guitar world. The Primary woods are: Mahogany backs & Sides, Spruce top. and
assuming it's a "Standard Series" D18, the 2009 msrp on a new one is 2,599.00. The D18 is also available as a "Vintage Series", "Golden Era", "Limited Edition" and "special Edition" Model...in each case, the msrp is higher than the "Standard Series". You'll find a serial number on the inside of the guitar where the neck joins the body, most any Martin dealer can tell from that number aproximately when the guitar was made. for the year 1953 the serial numbers for all martin guitars are in the 134,501 to 141,344. If the number on your guitar alls within that range you can be pretty sure that's when it was made. For more specific Info, contact Martin Guitars at www.martinguitars.com.
