Just joined. I know many of you are active on it. A bit of a learning curve & requests from rappers and death metal dudes who clearly are just "friending" everyone. But otherwise a pretty slick site...
-Best,

I just sent you a friend request. I liked your song "Rainbow" very much and also the video of you playing it in the art gallery...
I have a 1980 Guild JF212XL twelve string that I just love, and I agree with you that Taylors are nice for playability, but I have never been impressed with their tone. I will admit upfront though that I am an old fashioned guy when it comes to my acoustics. I like a GLUED IN NECK JOINT...there is just no way I will ever believe that a screwed on neck is going to sound the same as a set neck! I have two martins, a 6 and 12, Two Guilds, a 6 and 12, and two Gibson acoustics, all with glued in necks. Yep, they ain't always as comfortable as a neck that you can change with a screwdriver "on-the-fly" but I don't care because they just sound better. My Guild 12 has a 17" wide body, based on the company's archtops. You know how they say that "you don't know what you got til it's gone..." Well how true that is. My Guild 12, along with a Hofner Beatle bass, was stolen back in September '08 after a show and I really appreciated what I had when I went to replace it! However, happy ending, the guy was caught and I got both instruments back! When we travel I play with at least five instruments and that Guild never leaves my site now...none of them do!
I am playing in a trio called "Sparks, Raymond & McCoy," but I have also just begun playing out with my two sons, Josh and Phil as "The Sparks Trio." That has been a real treat! I also noted that you do children's shows...my friend Patrick and I do shows where we demonstrate a dozen or so different acoustic instruments (guitar, 12 string, archtop, dobro, bass, banjo, mandolin, banjolin, etc.). We do it for all ages, but the ones for the kids and the elderly are our favorites...you never know what they are going to ask...sometimes it ain't about the instruments!
Anyway, it is nice to meet you and I would love to see some pics of your Guild 12 string soon! If you would like to visit my website (links below) there are a few things you might find interesting, like my Guitar Gallery in the Photo Gallery section...and the videos of me playing with my sons on the Video Page. If you do get to visit, please feel free to leave a message in the Guestbook!
Thanks, Edward
