Acoustic Guitar at NAMM – Sunday, January 17 and Wrap Up
We’re back from four busy days at the Winter NAMM show, excited by the fun of our 20th anniversary party with so many industry friends, and by seeing all the new gear that will be hitting the shelves of your favorite music store in the coming months. I really enjoy the magazine and appreciate the Community. I've gotten a lot out of both and like to think I've contributed at least a little to the Community even though I'm a relatively new player. Unfortunately, I must comment on the UltraSound ad on p. 43 of the current issue. It jumped out at me as being totally inconsistent with the high editorial standards of the magazine. It is demeaning not only to women, but also to all men who respect the women and girls in their lives. I'm sure AG has a great many women readers, and there are many women in the Community too, and I can imagine how some of them must feel about this kind of advertising. As a former marketing executive for the country's largest pantyhose brand, I know a lot about marketing to women. The recent Levy's ads use the same idea as the UltraSound and are almost as demeaning although without the use of what amounts to soft porn. I just think this sort of thing has no place in what is otherwise an environment characterized by high and upstanding quality. Thanks for considering these thoughts.
