Dave Keir replied to Norman LeDonne's discussion Advice in the group Fingerstyle players
"I'm in the UK and I agree it can sometimes be a tricky conversation about fees. Some well known guys and girls will have a "set" fee for different types of gigs - clubs, festivals, corporate, etc. I, on the other hand, tend to be more…"

Dave Keir replied to Paul's discussion Arrangements in the group Fingerstyle players
"I spent time (many years ago) transcribing Scott Joplin rags from piano scores and later harmonising Scottish and Irish fiddle tunes for fingerstyle guitar. These days are past being purely a singer-songwriter since many years. But I…"

Dave Keir replied to Nikki Rosetti's discussion Mastering Mastering in the group Home Recording
"Hi Nikki! Don't master your own recordings, please, if you aspire to sell on iTunes, etc. Dave"

Dave Keir replied to Ed Rhoades's discussion Finger squeaks in the group Home Recording
"Edward, How have your resolved this? It's been a while since you posted and suggestions were provided.  My thoughts were reading through were it's hard to know to what extent "finger squeaks" would be intrusive to the…"

Walt Pilcher replied to Dave Keir's discussion "Irresolution Blues" (new original on Martin OM-18V) in the group Songwriting Review
""Although it sounds improvisory in nature it is in fact quite 'worked out'."  That makes it even more impressive!  Very nice."

Dave Keir replied to Dave Keir's discussion "Irresolution Blues" (new original on Martin OM-18V) in the group Songwriting Review
"Thanks for listening, Walt!   Thanks for your advice on bringing the vocal up a bit - you're absolutely right, in fact it was a doubt I had myself and it's good to get confirmation.    As for playing it the same way twice -…"

Walt Pilcher replied to Dave Keir's discussion "Irresolution Blues" (new original on Martin OM-18V) in the group Songwriting Review
"Dave, Very clever and fun to listen to.  I liked the irony in that "she" is as indecisive as you.  Liked that you didn't resolve at the end.  I'm thinking, too, that this may be one of those pieces you'll not…"

Dave Keir replied to Darren Fay's discussion What's out there in the group Home Recording
"I've been using Cubase as my DAW for years and have never felt there was a reason to consider another. Workflow brought about by familiarity is a big disincentive to consider changing. I use UAD plugins for the little EQ and compression…"

"Irresolution Blues" (new original on Martin OM-18V)

Hi folks! This is a song that I’m thinking about for my next record and I’d welcome your opinions. The song is loosely an indecisive blues with some irresponsible guitar interludes. Please let we know what you think of the recording because I have some doubts and would like to know your criticisms match these same doubts. Thanks! Irresolution Blues (Oh, yes – there’s a poll below the song player on my website; please use it!…See More

Dave Keir replied to Dave Keir's discussion New original song on a Martin OM-18V - "Piranha" in the group Songwriting Review
"Thanks for listening, Walt. I think you're right about the vox being a little laid back. It's a typical fault of mine. I'll go back and tweak that.   Cheers! Dave"

Walt Pilcher replied to Dave Keir's discussion New original song on a Martin OM-18V - "Piranha" in the group Songwriting Review
"Fun song, Dave.  Very clever, and I enjoyed it.  It seemed to me the gain could be a little higher on the vocal, but otherwise the production sounded good too."

New original song on a Martin OM-18V - "Piranha"

I've always had a morbid fascination with the gruesome. When it's what humans do to each other I twist my brain into contortions trying to understand it. In the cases of mother nature's red-in-tooth-and-claw examples, I just shudder and put it down to survival-of-the-fittest. A couple of hours browsing the History, Discovery and National Geographic channels on TV can give me bad dreams.Couple all that with my pathological fear of wimmin and you might get a glimmer of insight why I might find a…See More

Dave Keir replied to Dave Keir's discussion "The Shirt" in the group Songwriting Review
"Thanks Walt. Yes, I agree re the lyrics - I changed that verse to make it more oblique. In fact I forgot to change the written version (memo to self...)"

Walt Pilcher replied to Dave Keir's discussion "The Shirt" in the group Songwriting Review
"Good song!  I like the 3rd verse lyrics as sung better than the printed version."
