"Your theories are correct!  The first 2 digits do actually indicate the year.  Any number after that indicates the number of that particular model built in that year."

Great ... please do let me know what you think about that particular open-mic.  I have about 4-5 that I rotate among in the area and would like to know about some other good ones.  Hope the sale with Chris down in Florida went through.  I gave him a good report and it seemed like he was ready to buy, but I haven't heard specifically.
