David Pelham commented on Michael Millham "Sidheguitarist"'s group Classical Cognoscenti
"Very creative and distinctly modern, but listenable and fun with plenty of regard for the original.  Deftly done!"

David Pelham replied to FloridaGull's discussion La Patrie classical guitars - screwed-on bridge? in the group Classical Cognoscenti
"I don't have an answer specific to this brand, but little bolts or locator pins simplify the manufacturing process.  It could be either.  That having been said, a guitar made with a mechanized assembly process is always suspect. …"

David Pelham replied to Michael S. Jackson's discussion Arm Rests in the group Classical Cognoscenti
"I have played a few with arm rests, and have done some side-by-side comparisons - with and without - of similar instruments.   I have not been impressed by any big difference in sound or volume.  Without the arm rest you can dampen…"

David Pelham commented on Michael Millham "Sidheguitarist"'s group Classical Cognoscenti

David Pelham left a comment for Teja Gerken, Senior Editor
"I saw you flash by in the mob scene that was NAMM.  You appeared to be in a real rush so I didn't chase you down, but I hoped to run into you later.  I just wanted to meet you and say "Hi".  I have enjoyed some of your…"

David Pelham commented on Michael Millham "Sidheguitarist"'s group Classical Cognoscenti
"Daniel Caro has log books full of his production and sales records.  He could probably tell who originally bought this instrument and what woods were used!  He can be reached by phone at: 011-52-423-525-0097.  Pero, él no habla…"

David Pelham commented on Michael Millham "Sidheguitarist"'s group Classical Cognoscenti
"A new Daniel Caro Leonardo will set you back $3k - $6k (top of the scale for a Mexican guitar!).  This one is from early in his career, is possibly a Flamenco judging from appearance, and it could be made from top quality woods or second rate…"

David Pelham commented on Michael Millham "Sidheguitarist"'s group Classical Cognoscenti
"I know Daniel Caro.  My friend has two of his guitars and I have played several others, as well, in Paracho in his shop.  He is one of the premier guitar builders of Mexico, builds only to order, has a fine reputation and is a true…"

No.6

Playing my most recent guitar, the sixth classical guitar I've built. It is a fine-playing and fine-sounding instrument! I'm very pleased with it. It has a perfect Redwood top with Palo Escrito sides and back and an Ebony fingerboard. There are some…

David Pelham commented on Michael Millham "Sidheguitarist"'s group Classical Cognoscenti
"I have used the Schallers - all three pictured, in fact - on guitars I've built and have never had a problem with them.  They are very handsome, as well.  It would be hard for me to justify the spendy ones when these are available!"

David Pelham commented on Michael Millham "Sidheguitarist"'s group Classical Cognoscenti
"Yes, this Castillo flamenco is "a little" pricier than those in the discussion below, but if you or someone you know is looking for something like this, this one will not disappoint!  Big sound, great feel and fun!"

David Pelham commented on Michael Millham "Sidheguitarist"'s group Classical Cognoscenti

We went last year when the reports were at their worst. I contacted a couple of guitarist-friends down there and they both said we'd never see a hint of a problem. We decided to go, my wife and a friend went along, and the info was right - never a ripple of concern. Having said that, I suppose you could be at the wrong place at the wrong time, though the odds are probably way against it.

One of the guitarists I contacted was Antonio Lopez Palacios. Check him out here playing an Abel Garcia 8-string fan-fretted guitar: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zqj2lT6CPwk

David I am going to keep this in mind. It sounds facinating. Is it safe with all I read and hear about in the news about the drugs ect.?

That picture is me playing the Barajas cutaway classical/flamenco hybrid in his shop the day I took delivery. It exceeded my expectations! He and I "negotiated" the design parameters (I have built 4 classicals, myself - working on no. 5) and he was very eager to build it.

Now ya see, this is something I can use. Do any of these guys have websites Dave?
I would like to know more about their (&your) guitars. A trip to Mexico?....Ya see David, my problem is I am so shy and unconfident about my playing it is hard for me to "try out" guitars while the craftsmen watch. Alone, at home in my room, 15 minutes I would know;. I guess I have got to overcome that. Do you go every August?
