Lon, Are you the only one performing strictly original music? I would guess, not. I would also guess that the venues have been having live music, for sometime without paying into ASCAP, BMI, or SESAC. Why should they pay? This is part and parcel of…

Lon, Quick question. Do the other participants at the open mics play ONLY original material? Unfortunately, they probably don't. These venues probably don't pay in to ASCAP, BMI or SESAC, either. Royalties are royalties. This is how songwriters mak…

She's beautiful. I can't wait to here, her. It takes a master craftsman, to breath life into an instrument. Looks like mother and baby are doing fine.

What are edgy lyrics? Usually, controversial subject matter, or maybe, existential topics. Steely Dan were considered "edgy", or controversial, when they first came out, but maybe more for the jazz harmony, than the lyrics. Madonna, and now I guess…

Hi Dave. Over the months I've begun to feel a kindship to you for some reason. I have trouble up the you know what. I'm looking at a year in jail for a DUI. Go to court on the 7th of july. If you don't hear from me in a while that's why. I consider you a friend. Sounds weird,we have never met. Nevertheless I hope things are OK with you and your family.

Hi Dave
Crazy parallels - I'm also currently working on a few pieces in open D. I love fooling around in both DADGAD and DADF#AD. It really opens up a lot of space on the fingerboard and allows experimental freedom. My theoretical knowledge of chords is pretty ordinary so I just search for patterns and develop vocal melodies around the changes. I also use dropped D a lot ( I guess that's the folkie influence again), suits my alternate thumb picking style. I look forward to your next piece, Nice to hear from you.

Cheers

Hi Dave
Just revisiting - listening to Joni's Blues - really love this. Made me think of Michael Manring on bass who I heard through a variety of Windham Hill recordings. Thought you may appreciate this you tube listing - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aY4Ra2KOyas&feature=related - You may be across him already.? Hope you are well.
Cheers

Dave
what are u using for the bass line in ho down? a bass guitar or synth? Wished we lived closer, would like to get together and exchange some ideas and play together. Maybe even write as a team. You also have a love of bossa as I. Tell me about Dusk. Great tune and guitar work (including all instruments). We have alot in common musically. We even play a little alike. For me playing all instruments presents it's own set of problems as I have to think like the instrument I am trying to reproduce. A good project and a great tune!!!!!!

Hey Buddy!

You better stop lifting. You will have every girl following you. How are you feeling? Have they decreased the prednisone yet? Recording up and running yet? SOS here.. Finishing up a tune and will post when I like the recording. I never do! In my mind it could always be better, that mistake, that bass line etc.. It haunts me but unfortunately is a part of my soul. Hope this finds you in good health and spirits. Hi to your dad! Later alligator

Hey Dave - No probs. That is one really good tune. One of the things I enjoy about your tunes is the cyclic nature of the theme and your use of harmonies. It's friendly and feel good. Man - some flute overlay on U've herd this 1 would be beautiful.
I totally understand your attitude to being "ripped off." I guess in some way it's a back hand compliment but I just can't understand the nature of the mongrels who do this. Obviously they have no soul. I enjoyed your influences story, your listening back catalogue has a lot of similarities to my own. I was feeling a little despondent recently about my songwriting abilities and how much I didn't know when I came across Mary Chapin Carpenter's song Twilight. Beauty in simplicity. It was a lovely wake up call.
Keep the music going Dave.

Hey Dave - Don't want to stroke it too much but if you haven't yet, you need to get this stuff into album form. I love the new stuff you've put up. The variety of different feels work well and there is a distinctive "David Rigby" sound evolving. What's with the AVS media demo interference on U've heard this before? Is this an audacity thing? This is a great tune, great feel. Which acoustic are you using for the strums? Keep it happening - This is music I'd buy.

Very Cool Dave. I like it - simple and sweet. I use the same premise when working with pro tools at home. I'm no techno head and tend to rely on ears rather than plug ins (reverb and eq are about as deep as I go.) Thanks for responding. Please put some more tunes up. Cheers. PS Love the clever song titles.
