I play a Epiphone AJ200 electric acoustic and it's a good reasonably priced around $350 street and sounds good. I would recommend them to anyone wanting a affordable good quality guitar. The one thing is have a shop check the set up for you , I foun…
Hello Monty, the first thing I want to say is be thankful you no longer have that instructor. As to the fact that most practice does not sound musical it's true, repeating the same cord or pattern over and over and over can drive others around you n…
Try putting fingers 2,3,4 in place first then lay 1 across for the barre. If you put 1 down first you will not be Abel to get the others in the right place with enough pressure on the strings. I sort of found this out the hard way after giving up gu…
Just thought I would drop in and make some noise. I went to folk music festival Friday and attended some workshops. One on better backup playing , one on Barr cords and one on dropped tunings. Now I know I will not remember it all but I feel I will st…
Good idea Dan, Golden Slippers is also a good tune. Sounds like someone in your group likes the fiddle tunes:-) Try Old Joe Clark some time its fun to play also .
Don
Good Luck on the break. Could you have picked any thing faster? I like St. Anne's Reel but it is a finger twister for sure. We have been working on a cool tune, Fiddler's Last Dance by John McCutcheon. It's a 3/4 time tune but the cords are like alp…
I think I messed up the reply but I was saying good for you and I told you so. As you say there are no do-overs but you will be surprised how often you get lost and recover . Soon you won't get as lost. I missed the jam today had to much other work…
Hi Dan , The thing you have to think about when it comes to playing with others is , are you having fun. There is so much to learn and I share your since of being overwhelmed. I need to work on scales, barre cords, cords , note picking and still try…
Matthew ask a good question. One I had to deal with, when you only have so much to work with you want the most bang for the buck. I ended up going with how it felt or one could say how it fit me . How it sounded and playability . I had narrowed it d…
Just to add to the above, my reference on the cord patterns is 8th note .com . However the video and another cord Guide shows the Bd7-9/Bdim as a Bddim . this can get a little confusing.
Was just watching a video and this question came up . Why is the C#dim and the B(flat)dim the same cord.As a B(flat) is also A# and C# is also D(flat) ? I know it must have something to do with the diminished part of it but what? So if any of the mu…
I do believe that getting discouraged is part of the process and it will never go away. Sometimes I think that I will never play well, but other days I am surprised how far I've come. Its a roller coaster. My instructor and I have discussed this and he just insists that I don't give up. Always things start looking up.
Don: In one of my groups and as a blog, I described my efforts to start a guitar club. Long story short is that the mechanics of it has been pretty discourgaging. So I'm curious to know how you found the guys you play with and if you get together to play or if someone has gigging aspirations.
Welcome. I've only been a member a short time but there are a lot of nice folks and older beginners. It's helpful to hear others have their trials and tribulations that I have.
