Bose L1 PA systems

I've been using the L1 Classic but it's starting to get heavy to haul around (read: I'm getting older...) so I traded it in on the L1 Compact. It's so much lighter and easier to set up. It's not as p…

Using a Music Stand

Not sure why I can remember other things but I have never been able to remember the lyrics to songs including the ones I've written. I also felt that it was unprofessional to use a music stand. That…

Cigar Box Guitars

I'll see if I can fit that into my schedule. Up til now it was really just a toy to play with. I've never performed with it.

What kind of PA set-up do you own/use for performing? Have you ever tried the Bose L1 systems?

I'm from Sudbury, and I like to play any genre. A good song is a good song regardless of the style or genre....dare I say all styles have some merit somehow in music.

I haven't found the need for myself but the bass is barely adequate for a solo guitar and voice on the Compact. I use a Porchboard Floor Bass and it too seems OK with the Compact. I had a Classic with one bass bin and it was just right but still qui…

Together with the BOSE I did amplify one of the rooms at Electrowave, a festival of music, nu, dj, etc. High volume, with a side room with a 30,000-watt PA Martin Studio. We used only 8 studs and 8 sub managed to withstand the impact of the Martin s…

I'll see if i can find that link for you...It was a few months back...mainly they used it with a singer playing an acoustic electric guitar and they had problems with not enough bass, then a low rumble feedback that they couldn't seem to fix (during…

Folks- Our group of four just had another gig and they house "made" us use their system in a pub with 75 or so people.... We had a really rough first set tracking down rumbles (in my guitar pickup) and other bizzare feedback issues.... and we just c…

Hey Ed. Is there a link to that review on the Compact in AG. I'd love to read it. I find that for every one that reviews a product there is a different response. It is definitely not as good as it's big brothers (L1 Classic, Model 1 and Model II) bu…

Oh yeah, one more thing...I have NOT heard good things about the BOSE system pictured above with the built in "bass" speaker. Acoustic Guitar did a review and did not like the results...now there is a source I trust! Edward http://mysite.verizon.net

Hi Paul, I actually have tried it, not in a live situation, but in the stores...and I have tried both vocal mic and acoustic guitar with both a undersaddle pickup and, in the case of my Gibson J160E, a magnetic pickup. They all sounded great! I have…

I'm sure there are many variations of this instrument. I think there is someone on this site that made one out of a cigar box

Great idea! Now...how to apply that to private lessons. I might try writing a few set chord progressions and time the students each week to check for improvement.

PA Systems

I've had a few different PA set-ups in my day. The last radical change was from the usual 2 speaker style to the Bose L1 line array speaker system with a single totem pole type stand which acts as mains and monitors all in one simple set-up. The only problem for me was the weight of the base which houses the 2 amps and mixer. It does take up less room than a conventional set-up and is quicker to set up but that one piece is too heavy for me so....Bose now has the L1Compact. A lighter version per… Continue

Didn't know I had a blog....

I don't know if I will find time to use this feature or not but we'll get it started anyway. I'm 57 and live in Brampton, ON, Canada. I have been playing guitar since I was 12. Guitar was not my first (or my last) instrument I learned to play. I started palying trumpet when I was 8. I now play trumpet, trombone, tenor sax, French Horn, guitar, bass, 5 string banjo, mandolin, uke, pedal steel, recorder, harmonicas, dulcimer, canjo...I think that's it. Now I want to try sitar and tabla. I play Blu… Continue

Freddy,
Welcome to the Newb group. It's always good to have experienced players in the group, and we learn a lot from each other.

Hi Freddy
You are right, although the US registation system can be used by Canadians, and it is cheaper, but I would think the people who really have to worry about people stealling their songs are people who write hits, like the recent Paul Anka/MJ story.

Hi Freddy
Thanks for taking the time to respond. The reason I asked is I have written some songs, and I perform them live when the situation permits. Most of my gigs are in retirement homes and senior residences, so I am mostly covering Frank Sinatra and Hank Williams and that stuff. I have a self-recorded CD, but I have only heard one of my songs covered by someone else once, I don't know if anyone else plays my stuff. I have not registered my songs with Socan, maybe I will in the future.
Thanks again
Paul

Hello
You look a bit like Collin Linden with the hat and beard. I would like to ask you a couple of questions, I hope that is okay. You said you have over 100 songs listed with SOCAN. Do other people perform/record your songs, or just you? Are any royalties coming to you from these songs? Did you also register your copyrights, in Ottawa or in Washington, or did you decide that was not needed? I hope you don't mind these questions, and I hope you have time to respond.
Thanks
Paul
