Nice job...you two really suit one another vocally. Neil Young is a genius and very very hard to mimic. Love your playing by the way

Agree Jim Croce and if you like Bert Jansch you surely like John Renbourn and Davy Graham? Martin Simpson's nod to Bob Dylan: Boots of Spanish Leather is fab. What about Tim Hardin 'Reason to Believe' and 'If I Were a Carpenter'? 'How can we hang on…

A 12 works just fine in Standard tuning & very common. It's also common to tune down in pitch. If you're interested, there is a bunch of Kottke tabs here: http://www.tabpigs.org Rgds, Joe Carpenter

I have in mind 3 Jimmy Page songs: Kashmir, No Quarter and Black Mountain Side. I'm sure you can find the tabs of these and others, searching on the web. I'm not able to send them. Just digit DADGAD on Google. Have a nice hunting. Antonio

Frogngerm added a discussion to the group 12-String Guitar
Hello fellow 12 stringers I have just acquired a 1997 Takamine 12 stringm, (my first apart from a Martin which I moved on pretty quickly) and it sounds really great! I want to ensure it's played, and to get started with some nice tunes written for…

Well I hate to do this to you, but if you are looking at high end guitars for the amount of money you are going to spend then take a look through the classifieds here and see what you like the most, great folks on that forum and honest as the day is…

Wonderful. I must say you can't beat a really nice bit of nylon string playing, and this is a jaunty little tune. Can I ask how you record the sound so nicely?

Grade 6 music exams

Well done to my sons taking their grade 6 guitar exams today. They did OK despite an exam environment that was far from conducive. My guess is they wil each get a merit, but we will not know for 4 weeks. I'm just glad that 14 and 17 year old boys feel motivated to go through these grades. The eldest was resistant but now admits he has learned a lot. Understanding the musical elements helps with his soloing inspiration especially. Proud of them both.

Open mic night and my sons

Watched my sons perform as guitarists and vocalists at an acoustic open mic night tonight, in a pub in Kent, England. They did 3 songs: 'Another day in paradise', a John Mayer tune and a Rodrigo y Gabriela song. As 14 and 17 year olds it was a bit of an alien environment, they were set back some distance from the audience on stools. The equipment didn't support them entirely as it might have done. They were more nervous than I have seen before, but they brought the house down! Fantastic performa… Continue

Karma in action or a wind-up: you decide!

Don't know what I've done to deserve this. Serious karma. I spent half my time in the 80's avoiding Phil Collins then my sons come out with this:

Hi, Frogngerm!
I just posted this picture in my page, with a comment. And I remember we have talked about inlays. The inlays are, in my opinion, perfectly adequate to this kind of instrument. Let me know what you think...

Hi Frogngerm,

Thanks for the kind compliments and welcome. I'm new to forums and hopefully can figure out how and where to respond. From you pic it looks like you are a lefty and play classical guitar. Your boys are great, congrats and my compliments!

All the best,
James goodall

Hi,
I agree 200% with you about how important is world peace, compared to red strats. However 1) In my youth, I lived in Luanda, Angola, there was a colonial war going on, I wished for peace with all my heart, but that didn't prevent me from getting interested in The Shadows, and, later The Beatles. 2) In 2006, I attended a guitar making summer course given by Jose Romanillos in Siguenza, Spain. We were 22, from all over the world, and certainly with very different ideas, that's for sure. There was a tacit agreement, not to discuss politics, or religion, at least when we were in groups, i. e. at meals, or so; but, if you were alone, say, with one of your colleagues, you would speak freely on any issue. That gave us 22 a good living for two hard work weeks. So, my friend, I will gladly give you my e-mail, and we can talk on any issue, namely the best ways to world peace. I simply prefer not to discuss that in an open forum like this one, about guitars. But I do have a social, or political participation: I'm a Lawyer that works mostly for trade unions, I'm sure you get the message... Best regards. Luis.

Thank you very much for your comments on my music. And, don't get so sure about mr. Faulty and Mr. Bean. I've been to London in 1970. By that time, people in the streets dressed in a very colourful way, while we in Lisbon wore mostly grey and brown. I returned to London in 2008, and got the idea that Brits are a lot less formal than Portuguese. My classic guitars have a severe and austere look, that I think suits them, but I chose my electric guitar (a Teisco, bought in 1965) to be no less than metalic red! And, if I ever buy a Strat, it must be red like Hank Marvin's one...

Hi Alan, I like the look of this site! - I'm pleased that the Lignum saddle works well with your Takamine, it's always a bonus when I recieve feedback on my items - I wish your son the best at Leeds Uni, I've a friend who studies music there too, and he rates it highly! Gary

I have been fortunate to have Labs all my life and at my age (60) I just do not
want to deal with the death of another dog. I volunteer my time at the local humane society, brushing, feeding, walking, etc. dogs when I can but he, Hershey, was one of a kind. I appreciate your words but know I did the right thing for him and was with him when he was put to death. Thanks

The photo is of this mans best friend. Had to put him down last August after we found out he had cancer. He was the only one who could stand (or lie) around me when I played and sang; a tribute to him as a gentleman or perhaps lack of hearing acuity.
