"I just LOVE that size 5 that Sting plays. One of the few Martins I've never seen come thru the shop. There's a section about it in Martin Guitar Masterpieces by Boak. I have some plans and one day I'm gonna make one....or four ;-)"
"Tho I build nylon string guitars.....I own and play a '72 000-28 and have always loved it. With that said....I've always have a special fondness for all mahogany guitars like the 000-15 you're considering. Good luck in your search.…"
The clear plastic that Luis talks about is acetate w/ a clear adhesive on one side. It comes w/ a paper backing so you can cut to to size w/ a scissors and / or razor blade. Make it the shape you want and clean the top so there's no dust…"
"Alan...also make sure that you need a saddle that is 1/8" wide. That's on the wide side of saddles. If that's what's in your existing guitar...perfect! If not...see if Tusq make another saddle that's compensated AND a tad…"
"A client who has his own model made by Martin, was in the shop yesterday telling me that at the NAMM show Martin had a stack of very old Brazilian Rosewood but that it was destined for 40K to 50K type of guitars. The "factories" are trying…"
"I played one of these Washburns at Guitar Center recently. A young lady was sitting among 3 guitars and asked if I knew about guitars as she was having trouble deciding which she wanted and the GC people weren't being too helpful. I sat and…"
"Steve and all,
I'm sure I've said this before....but I've been building small guitars like your Yamaha for many years now, a bit fancier ...and more expensive ;-) but about the same size and tuned to A's in both nylon and steel…"
Thank you for the explanation / demonstration! Where can one purchase this?....I've never seen it sold in the U.S. before. Do you think it would work for a full size 12 string guitar?
Nice pictures and great explanation!!
"I recently had a '59 Martin 0-17t in the shop to re-glue the bridge and restring. She tuned it to CGDA (she is a cello player) and I re-strung it w/ the equivalent D'Addario's J-66 Tenor set (.010, .014, .022, .032) and she…"
"Ron....I honestly have no idea on the price (and in a perfect situation would probably prefer to trade for a small body guitar). The guitar needs some TLC and I just don't have the time to devote to it like I hoped....plus someone who has the…"
Hey Greg, My Martin is 276287. What's your opinion on where the 000-28 stands compared to other models of Martin. I used it on the track I have on my home page. Don't have any experience, and recorded the vocals and guitar at the same time. Thanks, Robert
Howdy, Greg. I note your comments and suggestions when you pop in on topics and wonder if you'd lend me a little advice. My beautiful sounding '36 Gibson L0 will be needing a neckset down the road, but is still real playable. Problem is I believe the former owner didn't respect the intolerance to heavy strings these super light tops have, and at some stage the top began to be pulled down in. Well, it seems like a 'rough in' carpenter cut across the top portion of the Xbrace and glued in a freekin' 2x4 (kidding) across just below the soundhole. I'd like to pull that and restore the original bracing pattern. Could you hazard a guess as to whether the redone support would be adequate to keep the top level. Amazing that the thing still sounds so sharp and rich. I think it could even be better. Big thanks for your input. Dave G.
