Hi Chris, Not wordy at all. It was just the type of drill I was looking for. It strikes me as something I can do watching TV. I'll also take your and John Gundrum's advice about slowing down. I do ha…

I'm having a difficulty placing my fingers down simultaenously when changing chords.  I can't seem to break the habit of finding a string with one finger, then using that as "home base" so to speak,…

Wow. This is a leap of faith. I think I'll try it though and I'll let you know how it works for me.

Sorry, the "Space Trainer" link I mentioned above should be this: guitar learning aid (I'm not used to this forum, I thought it would do it automatically!)

Hi, Sharyl. So you have been through Hal Leonard books 1, 2 and 3? That's impressive. I hope Susan's book won't be too basic for you.
I take group lessons as a retirement hobby. I finished an 8-week basic course last year. Now we learn a little technique each week - usually a riff or strum pattern. When I spend an hour practicing a little riff for exampIe, I often get the feeling I'm taking valuable time away from the basics. I'd like to play rhythm with a group one of these days. That requires, above all else, changing chords quickly and smoothly. So I got Susan's book to start each practice session with a half hour to an hour on the basics. After that, I fiddle with the fun things I may have picked up in class.
If you want to chat about anything to do with Susan's program or other pratice techniques, give me a holler.
Good luck.

Thanks for the welcome Hugh! I don't have a music teacher but plan to go over the book by myself. I have tried the guitar before but would learn some chords or notes in the first position and then quit. I always went back and I tried to analyze what my main problem is and I think, for me, it is I just need more practice exercises. I went thru the Hal Leonard Books 1, 2, and 3 and they are good. Just need a more structured regimen is all. At least that is what I am thinking I need and we'll see soon. I just ordered the book and will probably have it on Monday and then see how I progress! Hi Hugh,

Thanks for checking out my book. I designed it for students who are studying with a teacher. I understand your confusion because I talk to a lot of teachers who use it with their students.

Your teacher is a better judge of your skills than me, so I would ask your teacher to check the book and videos out to see if they're right for you. Have your teacher give me a call if there are any questions. In the mean time, you could try the free sample today to see what you think.

Hugh,
What's the name of the guitar store that has the "slow jam"? The son of a friend of mine is a guitar teacher at a store in the Raleigh, NC, area and I want to tell him about the idea, mentioning the store you go to in case he wants to ask them some questions about how it works from a business standpoint.
Thanks.

I like the sound of a slow jam too, what store is it?. When you are home look at this site for some fun practice. http://www.rhythmstrummer.com/free-stuff.php There are some songs I will sign up for but at this time I have not made it through the free ones. Just remember there will be days it seems you know nothing then one day you will say wow that did not sound bad. I smashed the end of one finger and was out of practice for two months so it is just like starting over for me. At least you found this place and there is a lot of good information here from a lot of good people that have been through it or are going throught it now. Hang in there and together we will all get it down.

Hugh,
The "slow jam" for beginners sounds great! More music stores should offer that with their lessons.
