Hi all; Looks like a group for me to join. Christmas present (permission from my wife) was a Taylor 414ce Fall Ltd and I love it. Copy and pasted the flowery marketing specs:
Indian rosewood and Sitka spruce are arguably the quintessential tonewood…
Hi Nancymae,
I only have a year in on the guitar but since you state your strings are old, old, old...I would say you are overdue. It's a small investment so there's nothing to lose. I changed them myself.

Hey Willie,
I agree. What a great site and what a great bunch of people! I'm astounded at how many thoughtful and comprehensive responses I've received. I especially appreciate the teachers and other "pros" that respond and so generously help us New…
While I do agree with you on this, I did manage to purchase a Yamaha starter Guitar kit for my daughter at GC, that has turned out to be a very decent guitar, but I definitely believe it was just the luck of the draw that day. I started with a very…

Guide to buying your first guitar
By Dennis Kambury
Ever since rock 'n' roll became a household word, the Guitar Hero has ruled supreme. From Bo Diddley and Chuck Berry through Jeff Beck…
Hi!
I may not be the most qualified person to discuss this, but I do play guitars since 1963, and I do construct them since 1994, I believe I've got something to share.
First, I believe it has to do with reward: If you have tuition, lessons, a teach…
I believe that once you get north of perhaps the $1500 price point, you are paying for rare tonewoods, the name and reputation of a certain luthier, or the labor involved for an instrument that has carving, inlay, etc. And there is nothing wrong wit…
My first guitar cost $189, includng the case! After a few weeks I realized that I was unhappy with it, because I could not keep it in tune. Very frustrating.
Next guitar was a ten year old Ovation, paid $600 for it (about half of what it cost when…
I have a $1200 Martin D-15 and a $300 Takamine GS330 and i like the Takamine much better.Maybe i'm unusual but it plays ,sounds etc just as good and is more comfortable to play.
It seems that it is related to how rare the wood has become. I have noticed among friends that once people are getting high end guitars, that the sound becomes a very personal thing. For example, from what I know about guitar construction (which is…
Thanks for checking out my book. I designed it for students who are studying with a teacher. I understand your confusion because I talk to a lot of teachers who use it with their students.
Your teacher is a better judge of your skills than me, so I would ask your teacher to check the book and videos out to see if they're right for you. Have your teacher give me a call if there are any questions. In the mean time, you could try the free sample today to see what you think.

Hugh,
What's the name of the guitar store that has the "slow jam"? The son of a friend of mine is a guitar teacher at a store in the Raleigh, NC, area and I want to tell him about the idea, mentioning the store you go to in case he wants to ask them some questions about how it works from a business standpoint.
Thanks.
Walt
I like the sound of a slow jam too, what store is it?. When you are home look at this site for some fun practice. http://www.rhythmstrummer.com/free-stuff.php There are some songs I will sign up for but at this time I have not made it through the free ones. Just remember there will be days it seems you know nothing then one day you will say wow that did not sound bad. I smashed the end of one finger and was out of practice for two months so it is just like starting over for me. At least you found this place and there is a lot of good information here from a lot of good people that have been through it or are going throught it now. Hang in there and together we will all get it down.
welcome Hugh! i'm a not so newbie...lol started playing off and on back in 2008 when i gifted myself with a birthday guitar...started taking lessons in jan 09. medical bills have forced me to quit the lessons this birthday month (aug), but not the playing or the learning. i got a book & cd from one of the teachers on this site and you know, i think i'm actually improving...lol Glad you've discovered us

Hugh,
The "slow jam" for beginners sounds great! More music stores should offer that with their lessons.
