"Thanks hue & Ed, Ed I do have an older version of Cool Edit and use it for clean-up and minor adjustments, I love it, the old version is best for me.  Hue, I just downloaded the X1 studio, and am going to install it this weekend, I am…"

"Thanks Tom.  I will have to try some extreme vocal flaws to see if that works.  My DAW (RealBand) only offers a "mixdown to stereo tracks" menu item.  I am going to try Sonar X1 (got a great upgrade deal) and see…"

Mixing down when using vocal correction plug-in

I have a question.  When I mix down my tracks to a stereo master how does the vocal processing effect continue working?  It seems it only takes effect when you play it in the "raw" (non-downmixed) version.  When you mix the tracks down to stereo tracks does it still control to vocal process?  Does anyone know if vocal correction corrects the vocal track and leaves it "fixed" or it is active as the track is played?  I am wondering if I should record the entire mix down to Revox tape and then…See More

"I am using Real Band and Sonar. I usually do mix everything down to a wav file and then convert it. When I mix it down to a stereo file, any format, the "active" VSTs like pitch correction or exciters don't seen to work. Any thoughts?"

hue replied to J D Carroll's discussion Using "active" VSTs on final mixdown in the group Home Recording
"First of all. NEVER mix down to MP3. Mix it down to wav. It just sounds better. Afterward you can convert it if you like. MP4 AIFF are much better formats. What software are you using?"

"I don't think I was completely clear. I meant to say I can't seem to save the file with the effect engaged. I can play the file into a recorder and record it that way but I want to save the original file with the effect. Any Thoughts?"

Using "active" VSTs on final mixdown

I have a  question.  If I am using an "active" VST plugin like Antares Vocal or Presonus BBE, on the final mix will the computer record the effect?  If I mix it down to an MP3 the effect does not seem to work.  I am guessing that those type effects only work in real time, meaning the effect only works when you play file with the effect engaged, you can't record the effect.  Anybody have any experience with this?

J D Carroll replied to Robert Hancox's discussion Recording critique requested in the group Home Recording
"Yo Robert, Sounds very good to me. Did you do it all in one take or overdub the vocals? You kept a good, strong, steady beat throughout. I have never had much luck with the MXL 991 mic, mine always sounds thin and very treblely. Did you use any eq…"
